Why do airline companies sell more seats than they can offer?
>>73438783
it's a time thing about receiving the updated seats

(((airline companies)))

I've been to US Airlines. Rude flight attendants, shot service, shifty delays.
I have better experiences with Chinese airlines.
America would be like the rest of that continent if it wasn't for giants like Apple
>>73438936
it has to do with airline corps very special kind of greed due to fluctuation of oil prices and the effect on travel so they short on pay and amenities
but no giants like apple and google and walmart contribute to the problem
Youtube comment sections are always like a meeting point between 4chan and tumblr

They hope the all knowing and all powerful invisible hand of the free market will fix it.

smithian invisible hand is actually socialism

Because usually a certain amount of people don't show up, so they can re-sell those seats even though they still charge the no-shows. Plus it looks like the crew that needed to be seated were directed to Louisville at the last possible second which they couldn't have accounted for.

Legacy carriers are a perfect example of why American industry is failing. Back in the 60s when there wasn't any competition, they were all doing really well and provided good service. Then as the market was internationalized, they stopped doing so well. So, what do they do? Instead of making their flights cheaper and offering better service, they cut all their amenities and pay their employees fuck-all, which in turn causes service to be even worse. Why? Because American legacy companies don't grasp the concept that sometimes you need to take a short-term cut in profit to make your company better in the long-term. So in their quest to maintain the exact same profits they had when they were the only players in town (which is impossible) they just drive customers away even more, which in turn makes things worse. It's funny, because right now, Spirit, a company that manages to be worse than fucking RyanAir is currently kicking their asses because of how cheap they are and the service not being that much of a downgrade. So instead of upping their service and providing more legroom, they put in MORE seats and get rid of even more amenities so that they can compete.

Not true. Major airlines buy long term oil contracts so they have a stable price. These contracts can set the price they pay for 10 years or more.
This is why despite having record low oil prices for the last year and a half, there hasn't been a major drop in airline prices.
