Boulevard usually means there's traffic running on the road and it's quite wide. A high street is usually a thin walkway through a town centre which does not have cars running through it during the day.

Not sure about England, but every high street we have is fairly wide and has traffic. I think the criteria for being a "high street" is less about size or traffic and more about being the centre of business in a town.

English posters are full of it. Most high streets are depressing shitholes with the same old concrete architectural disasters, a few nice old Georgian/victorian/Edwardian buildings and the same fucking shops everywhere. There is nothing more depressing than the English high Street imo.

There is a town i spend a lot of time in, on account of family living there called Harrogate.
It is not depressing or bad in any way, shape or form. No shit shops, very very few wogs (just some taxi drivers who live on the outskirts) and no chavs or trash people.

It has a famous botanical garden, also a spring- some brand of sparkling water comes from there

I'm not saying there aren't exceptions. I went to uni at York and I've lived in Bristol (Clifton) , Exeter and my hometown, Marlow, all of which have nice high streets. I'm just saying that these aren't typical and trying to suggest otherwise is pretty disengenious.

My main problem with British towns is lack of independent shops and the generally tiny historical neighbourhood (usually just a main Street and an area around a minster/cathedral). This is particularly sad when i visit other cities in other countries which are based around squares and generally have a really interesting selection of things in the centre. There isn't a single town in England which can hold a candle to somewhere like bologna imo. Too many towns and cities are disappointing nothings like reading.

Anyway sorry for the rant, i love England i just think our town centres are rubbish.

The only big towns/cities i been to are York, Leeds, Harrogate, Winchester, Godalming, Guildford, Portsmouth and London/greater london area, then a few towns in yorkshire and surrey

So far it seems , at least to me, that the shittiness is the exception rather than the rule, wth most of it being the stuff orbiting/in the really big cities.
Kingston (greater London) for example, is a depressing shit hole of modern architecture, dilapidated older buildings and lots of shit plastic signs
