It's code for "waitu piggu go homu"

Hey! Can I ask you something? Why would you say 僕と一緒になって泳いでくれた and not just 僕と一緒に泳いでいた ? Specifically, what's the purpose of the なる verb in this and what difference does it make, if there is any, between the two?
>>
>>73257383
Checked to see how up to date the links were and it とつくにの少女 is due for a physical tank release around the 10th while リューシカ・リューシカ is up to 10 volumes. Only the first 5 volumes appear to be scanned or ripped so I'll end up picking the remained from rakuten and making an updated mirror link for the CoR to use, depending on the quality of the digital versions.
So if you are looking to read either of those two, maybe read ふらいんぐうぃっち and 黒 first so the other two will be up to date by the time you get to them.

Emphasis on the fact that someone/some other persons involved joined "me/myself" in swimming. They weren't just swimming with me, they [came] to swim with me, as a personal favour. It could be the different between going for a swim at the beach with friends or simply swimming between the flags at the beach with other people.
一緒になる+くれる 'did the favour of joining [me] in swimming'
>>
>>73258519
Ah, I see. So くれる has to be used with なる in this situation? If I just got rid of the なる, shouldn't it be the same, with the くれる meaning doing sth as a favor? I mean, if I just said 僕と一緒になって泳いでいた or 僕と一緒に泳いでいてくれた it wouldn't be the same, right?

And also, thank you very much!
>>
>>73258827
くれた really just places emphasis on on the fact that the person felt that it was done as a favour for them. You know what, this explains it better than my rambling:
https://djt.neocities.org/bunpou/full_day.html#%E3%8A%A6%E5%91%89%E3%82%8C%E3%82%8B%E3%83%BB%E3%81%8F%E3%82%8C%E3%82%8B%282%29
>>
Doesn't Jisho include a Nanori section?
So what's a good name dictionary?
>>
一緒になる seems to be a set expression too. It's probably an abstract take on the なる definition discussed yesterday of "a change in a form or condition that is different from what it was previously".

As you can see, it can be used objectively (ie without the gratitude bent) in these examples:

http://jisho.org/search/%E4%B8%80%E7%B7%92%E3%81%AB%E3%81%AA%E3%82%8B%20%23sentences
>>
>>73259531
I think it has a more "end up doing something" flavor to it, maybe there's a relation with it being not an usual activity, like these examples where men and women meet (which they wouldn't do otherwise), the specialists teaming up for a bigger project, the folks planning a special celebration.

And the swimming sentence posted by Jardani also implies going out of your way to swim.

Captcha: 罰金がむ
>>
>>73259827
Jardani? Is this me, or...? I know I may be knew here, but I've never heard the word Jardani before.

Oh, and thank you very much!
>>
>>73259827

As you can see with the five sets of different interpretations and their synonyms, it's a versatile phrase.

http://thesaurus.weblio.jp/content/%E4%B8%80%E7%B7%92%E3%81%AB%E3%81%AA%E3%82%8B

Looking at those interpretations, There doesn't necessarily seem to be an emphatic quality built into the phrase itself. However some interpretations are no doubt going to be reserved for special moments, like the 2nd interpretation "to get married".
>>
>>73259531
I see. I've ben thinking of something like this, the problem is my sentence is a translation of a lyric and the lyric in no way says that it is something out of the usual or something that became like that or whatever...truth be told, the original lyric seems odd in English too, but that's just my appreciation of it. "(I jumped into the river and what did I see? Black eyed angels) swam with me". Don't know if that past simple is ok there, as it seems like a perfect action...or continuous, but nevermind that.

Oh hey, I remember you from a week ago lol. Yeah I was thinking later that, Radiohead is so popular in Japan that they probably have had their lyrics translated many times over. Murakami was even a fan, too.

I think I understand your dilemma and I think it's addressed in this little part in the DoJG. The Japanese concept of one receiving favor is more broad than it is in English, and will need to be expressed outright in more scenarios.

Ah, and thank you for going out of your way to help me!

And yeah, you may be right about the translation part, but truth be told, this is the most honest to the original material translation I've found on the internet, sooo yeeeeah...

On second thought, considering Radiohead's lyrics, I can understand that. Modern lyrics are shrouded in abstraction from the get go, and not just an arty band like Radiohead, but really modern pop music in general. But speaking of Radiohead I recall something simple like "Let down and hanging around"; only someone with strong grasp of casual English speech is really going to "get" what that means, "I'm disappointed and bored". Obviously the mood of the music helps, but you can't fine-tune an understanding from that alone. And if Japan doesn't share such expressions, or even a similar one, a straight translation can be pure gobbledygook. The more abstraction, the harder it is to understand, and that's not even counting being in a different language. Something like this, a song by post punk band Totsuzen Danball, would defy complete comprehension even from native speakers:

http://j-lyric.net/artist/a0531a2/l01e43d.html

Personally, for the sake of studying Japanese, this is why I stick with things like blog posts, reviews, articles, etc right now: their function is by and large to "inform", rather than to "express".

As expected of a leaf.
If you wanted to say that about your productivity, then the proper way is "yet not as selflessly productive as". You needed to repeat it because of the way you structured your sentence. Of course, your point might still get across, but i was just telling you for future reference, no need to get mad about it.
ガンバー!
>>
>>73272641
Now you're just sad...I just pity people like you who can't work up the effort to accomplish anything so you simply belittle other people's accomplishments. Get off your ass and do something.
>>
>>73272692
That's simply a matter of specificity to avoid ambiguity, not unlike the debate about the oxford comma. Although I have used the oxford comma for papers I would hand in, yet I have never used it on 4chan, and have never seen anyone use it on here either. You guys are just have such low self-esteem that you play grammar nazis on the internet from your third world shitholes. I know what rules apply to the english language, probably a lot more than you, and I didn't make any mistakes grammatically. Now get the fuck over it.
>>
>>73272744
>>73272903
As i guess you know, yet is a conjunction. So you have two separate clauses on each side. You can, sometimes, omit a verb on the second one if it's used in the first one(I think this is what you wanted to do). But your first clause expresses a state of being(Of being a productive canuck) whereas in the second one apparently you wanted to modify "Being productive" with "not as selfishly as ...". They are not the same verb/action("Being productive" ~= "being a canuck"), so you can't omit it in the second clause. By specifying "yet not as selflessly productive as", you are mentioning it so it's correct.
It's not just to avoid ambiguity, it's incorrect. Now get over it.
>>
>>73272502
>I'm a productive Canuck but not selflessly so.
How about this one?
>I'm a productive Canuck but not as selflessly as him.
It sounds fine to me.
>>
>>73272990
If I had said "I'm a gay canadian, yet not as openly as the one you're refering to", it would have been perfectly valid. Now replace gay with productive, and openly with selflessly.
>>
>>73273079
It is fine, don't listen to these two people who live in a favela and a snow favela.
>>
>>73273079
you're trimming all of the fat off the sentence to make it clearer

you might as well make it
>I'm a productive canuck but not selflessly.
sounds like unorthodox, poetic use of the language
>>
>>73273346
You're the ones trimming the fat, because you're forgetting what I was replying to. The guy had asked me if I was a particular canuck. Same as in japanese, this context is important to clarify what was meant by my reply. I am productive as a canuck, but not as selflessly as the other canuck referred to in his question.
>>
>>73273458
now you changed the structure completely, adding "as a" between productive and canuck

I think that's pretty much admission of guilt
>>
Great, now we've found a solution to revitalize this thread: DJET!
>>
>>73273526
Because based on the question, that is what is implied in my original structure. You can't dissect my statement independently from the question I was replying to, because that's what permitted my omissions. It's not fucking rocket science mate.

>>
>>73273858
I'm "Pedantic-BRchan" and I must agree, there is literally nothing wrong with changing your word order if the whole thing adds up in the end. Argentina failed to notice the term could be referring to "productivity", and I myself had trouble reading the original statement at first, but it was a reader-side mistake if you look into it a bit deeper.

Flexibility of the mind should we practice if other languages intend we learn; by bunches of butchered and incoherent sentences the Internet is plagued with, but reason to extinguish dynamic phrasing don't let that be.

Don't really know what I'm doing to be honest, just tweaking with the leveling. Move the slider a little bit this way and everything goes beserk, a touch the other way and you can't see anything. There isn't a scanlation thread up on /a/ at the moment, which I was going to use for some feedback from anons who have a clue about this stuff.
Ideally there can be some setting I can automate for the entire volume (the second volume is an entirely different shade of yellow/orange) instead of trying to level on a page by page basis. Will have to spend more time researching the cleaning process.
