Switzerland has superceded 1st world status at this point. You have a lot of freedom without much of the costs to society that come with it. For example taxes are low, but healthcare and other services are one of the best in the world. You have lax gun laws and a lower homicide rate than every European country besides Iceland.

Actually they do pay quite less. Their taxes are considerably lower than the vast majority of other developed countries.
