While I don't think Russia is exotic to Europeans and Americans, I do think that we undervalue you. The Cold War ended almost 30 years ago but the EU and the American military/intelligence community hasn't changed their outdated views. Our cultures are slightly different due to the path Western Europe and Russia took during the Renaissance and Enlightenment, but there are enough bonds (Orthodox Christianity, geography, genetics, European branch of Indo-European language, etc.) that we should have a much closer relationship.

IMO Russia should have joined NATO in 1990 in order to create a power bloc of Europe-USA-Russia against Africa, China, and the Middle East.

In my area there is a Russia style bath house and restaurants to try and the food and people are great but I haven't tried the bathhouse because I don't know the etiquette.
