Is Chess taught in your schools? How important is it in your country?
In the United States, it's mostly a game children learn. I've never seen an adult play Chess outside of a teacher and homeless people.

i joined chess club one year because the teacher gave me extra credit for it. full of pretentious spergs who weren't even that good at chess. regardless checker>chess

Don't recall any school teaching it. School was more about slow dances with girls. Know how to play chess, though. Used to know how to play checkers but forgot.

>checker > chess

I was taught it in my elementary, but it was just this school, chess is not a part of common school program. They just taught us basic rules, and then we were supposed to master the game practically, with no theory in hand.
Our school had a chess club
I learned it when I was a kid though, dad taught me and I played with him and grandpa a lot, mom was fucking terrible at it and having to substitute with her were bad times
Nowadays I'm terrible though, haven't retained shit and not played in years

>Is Chess taught in your schools?
No
>How important is it in your country?
almost completely irrelevant. There are like 6 Belgian grandmaster with 4 of them having a russian name
it's something you are socially expected to know but no institution is implied to teach it to you
i know it and played it
there are local clubs/tournaments regional tournaments and the like
What language is that?

My dad taught me this game, got decent at it at some point. Never really knew how high my elo was but I played locally for my school.
Shit's not that important here, treated like any other sport that's not boxing or basketball.
There are a couple of flips who are grandmasters so I guess there are people in here who like it that much.
I liked it as a kid but mostly had no one to play with.
