Is there any logic behind each ending?

E.g.: そこでは温泉に*入った*り、きれいな山を*見た*りすることができます。
This is in the -ta form+り(する), but it has nothing to do with past.

たり doesn't derive directly from the past tense た, it comes from the old auxiliary verb たり which derives from the 連用形 of the perfective auxiliary verb つ and the verb あり, in the form てあり.

And not all of the verbs that attach to て have to do with continuous action. ている is continuous or completed action, てある is resultant state of completed action, ておく is purposefully completed action, ていく is continuous action from the present into the future, てくる is continuous action from the past into the present, and then there are countless others that are neither continuous nor perfective like てみる or the directional sense of ていく or てくる. The main meaning of the て+verb structure derives from the second verb, not the て.

て by itself has many meanings and usages, but none of them specifically refer to continuous action.

ん before a vowel is pronounced roughly the same way as before さ、ざ、しゃ、や、ら or at the end of a word. I've heard it described as a "nasal vowel" before, but I usually just think of it being articulated at the very back of the throat, even further back than んか or んが. If you listen to how they pronounce the honorific さん at the end of a sentence in pretty much any anime you'll hear it's much closer to "ng" than "n". You don't do anything with your tongue, you just divert some of the airflow to your nose for a second.

If you search the 知恵袋 Yahoo questions type forum, this actually comes up a lot and is interesting to read over for a more candid insight from various Japanese about these issues.

The takeaway is that what kanji "mean" is a bit of a red herring. Learn words the kanji are used in and you will start to see their "meaning".

You can think of it as "shedding light" on a topic, or being able to see/analize things in a "good light" a.k.a with good judgement or foresight. I think it can also literally mean bright(明るい). Its also used in the word tomorrow (明日). Personally, I like the "bright" keyword more.
Always keep in mind the "keyword" you associate with a kanji isn't always that usefull, as a kanji can be used in VERY different words. It's important to learn vocabulary with kanji in my opinion, as it will allow you to develop your own personal opinion on a kanji's "meaning" and increase your retention(And obviously, you learn some vocab).
Also, I'm glad to see a fellow KanjiDamage student. I try to learn the kunyomis and jukugos with each kanji, how do you use it?

I am plugging away doing about 20-30 words per day making sure I have all the readings right and selecting the words I want vs ones that seem to unusual/uncommon. Transferring it all to paper first then having a list in front of me turn them all into flash cards in a caffeinated evening. This is mostly because I am also doing my reps at the same time and run out of time/energy. I don't expect to be done anytime soon.

I also have some words written down from random docu's/books/anime/games I'll add too.

I tried, but that shit is too fast. I have to watch it once pausing at every scene to read subtitles, once again looking at the visuals and once more screencaping reactions.

Yeah, it's mostly pretty easy to watch

i think i have decided what to do with my mining. i look up and add everything unknown to anki. mostly because it's quick and easy, and i like having a catalog of my encountered words. but doing spaced repetition for all of them is impossible. adding around 100 cards a day is not uncommon. i will keep adding all words but i will try to do repetitions like this.

every day, review cards added today by using a filtered deck without rescheduling. thus i will do the initial two steps for all new cards, but by default no cards are added into spaced repetition.
while reviewing identify cards that should be reviewed using spaced repetition. cards that seem relatively common or useful etc. mark them as favorites and decide on the best way to put them into rotation.
if i don't add new cards one day, spend that time on reviewing old ones that aren't in spaced repetition using filtered non-reschedule deck instead.

my guess is that this will give me less anki pressure because i get fewer due cards, and i will feel more motivated to do due reviews because i know the words are useful.

cards that i will keep adding directly to spaced repetition are specialist terms used in my major, words with new kanji/readings, and irregular readings.

But it might mean other things, like as "I am happy", "You made me happy", "He seems to be a happy fella".

Unless, of course, such tool works on a trial-and-error basis. Every time a translation seems off, people will rate it and it will apply changes to better suit that particular bubble on that particular page of that particular manga. Then it'd need to be a huge database and only mainstream stuff would get reliable translations - which is pretty much already the scenario we're in now. The only change would be translators losing their jobs.

I would like to go to Japan, to increase my Japanese skills as much as possible.
I want to speak and listen to natives and still have some fun in Japan in my free time.

Wondering about which option would be the best for that.

1. Language schools
I know there are language schools where you can stay for 3-12 months or something, but you have to pay rent, tuition fees and for food etc. which will be several thousands depending on how long you stay.
Not to mention that I have no idea if it'll be worth it, chances are it's either to slow and easy and I'm not really learning that much, or they progress fast as fuck and give us tons of shit to learn so I don't have any free time outside of lessons for trips or something.
Also I guess they'll be teaching how to write as well which I personally don't give a fuck about yet.

2. Work and travel
Only have to pay your rent and for food, get some cash back when I work, more freedom in general.
Sounds nice, but it would suck if I only found jobs for retards, that don't require speaking or there aren't enough opportunities to speak and become better.

Yeah more or less, I kind of struggle to answer the inevitable, "Why are you learning Japanese?", question from just about everyone. Before it was for the girl but that's long over and I feel like no one believes anyone would just learn Japanese as a hobby without wanting to either go there, watch anime, read manga or be some kind of weeb.

The culture is interesting I think and I like to read the history, maybe an anime or two but really I can do all that effectively without Japanese.

Heh, the guy in question is a language nerd, and the reason he's a linguistics major. But I suppose there is some kind of "stigma" when learning a language that isn't Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, etc., a "useful" language.

I think it's pretty difficult to learn a language purely for usefulness/ economic reasons. Some people manage to power through it and do it but I think those people are in the minority. It's a shame there are people who are closed minded to learning a language purely for enjoyment regardless of practicality.

I'm learning Japanese for the same reasons most people here are and get the same "why Japanese" response. I just give them an honest response, engage if they are curious and move on. I really love the process of learning this language, and it has given me a new perspective on languages, especially English. Like you, I would be left with a huge hole if I just dropped it.

sometimes it's kun and on, that i can deal with. but when it's neither?
下げる - in this case, 下 = shita is pronounced as sa. why? this is neither kun nor on. how do i even remember this with the 2500 other kanji i have to learn?
