Joseon comes from gojoseon which was the northern korean kingdom.

samhan and subsequently han, refers to the 3 kingdoms of korea in antiquity (silla baekje and gojoseon), its not like han chinese i believe, han means 'great (one), grand, large, much, many' (possible cognate with khan)
