It's part of history, what's there to believe?

>>72934389
Most likely after (or possibly at the time of) Patriarch Nicholas' death in 925, Simeon raised the status of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church to a patriarchate.[94] This may be linked to Simeon's diplomatic relations with the Papacy between 924 and 926, during which he demanded and received Pope John X's recognition of his title as "Emperor of the Romans", truly equal to the Byzantine emperor, and possibly the confirmation of a patriarchal dignity for the head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

The title "Imperator" was used by the Romans and that title was given by the Romans to the Bulgarian prince. Get it, you dumb fuck?
>>
>>72934389
Well they were given the title, according to some records Simeon was given the title in Constantinople. During peak periods, Bulgarian kings styled themselves Rulers of Bulgarians, Greeks, Vlachs, and other non-consequential groups. It was not a global empire on the scale of the British one, but certainly a major regional power like Austria-Hungary.
>>
>>72934586
I wonder why all Slavshits kept adding "and Greeks/Romans" when they wanted to be taken seriously :3
>>
>>72934586
"Global Empire". An Empire is not impressive just by it's size but the nation that it has conquered and fought. The British Empire conquered Native Americans and aboriginals while the Bulgarians conquered vast parts of the Byzantine Empire, the strongest nation back then. There is no contest.

We need a labour force apparently. I do not agree with our immigration policies but that's the excuse our government makes anyway. Also why does the reason for taking in migrants matter? All that matters is that they're in the country. France has terrorist attacks too, we don't.
>>
>>72935096
You retarded or something? Simeon was recognized as Emperor by the Byzantine Patriarch and government and then by the Pope himself. This isn't a monarchial inheritance, Russia wasn't an Empire and had no legitimacy to the title of Emperor. That's like Mehmet calling himself Emperor after conquering the Byzantines, it just doesn't work that way.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperator

Please, read what the title Emperor's original meaning was. And even in the current meaning of the word "Emperor", Bulgaria was still an Empire since it was a multiethnic kingdom comprised of many different cultures and people.

As for being small, the Roman Empire was small relatively to the many Empires that followed it, but it was probably the greatest Empire this world has ever seen. Size doesn't matter, what matters is the accomplishment of that particular country and the people it had conquered.

Let's not be retarded. They conquered India. They invented the steam engine and the telegraphs. They started the much-maligned globalization effort.

Yeah, India was such a hard state to conquer back then. Fuck off. And I already told you - they had pretty impressive advancements in some fields, but the European civilization was build on Rome from religion, culture, government to economical structure, military organization, language..... so many more things I can add here.

Hell, I have to say that even Napoleon's influence on Europe is comparable to that of the Brits. What pushed the Anglo culture into the mainstream relevance and continues to push it is the United States, not the English.
>>
>>72935684
you are correct. But America is a consequence of the british empire. See the difference between north and south america.
And also they invented a lot of things that we use on a global sale.
If the world was a Civ game, the british have won at least 3 victories and the romans 2.

By your logic America is a consequence of the Roman Empire because the British Empire was a consequence of England who were a consequence of the Roman legacy. It's absolute bullshit. The Brits have nothing to do with the United States after the Americans rebelled.

And? The "British" people that created the United States didn't consider themselves British, they thought themselves as Americans. You can't give the Brits the merits for pushing the Anglo culture into the mainstream considering they had almost nothing to do with it and it was the US who did it. If we're using your logic, practically everything European can be traced back to the Romans, including England and the British Empire. Should the Roman Empire get credit for what the British Empire did? Nope.

Cultural influence, religion, government system, ruling structure, economic system, military organization, military accomplishments, societal structure, ridiculous number of inventions that I won't list, etc - all come from Rome. Europe was practically build on Roman ruins. Everything you see even to this day can be traced back to Rome and ancient Greece. Rome dwarfs the British Empire in influence by a country mile, it's not even close.

Except they didn't think themselves as american. All of them still thought themselves as english, spoke english and wore english clothes and were essentially part of the english cultural, economical and political sphere for centuries. In fact, most of the founding fathers didn't even want to rebel, or rather did not want a full rebellion. In fact, it was Thomas Paine who convinced them to rebel, and he was even born in England.

This just proves how retarded you are. No one ever wanted? Literally the epicenter of human civilisation, the Middle-East. The Roman Empire had ~36% of the world's population within its borders at its height, whereas the Umayyad Caliphate had ~30% of the world's population within its borders. Yet you act like the Umayyads only conquered desert. Sad.
>much easier to conquer nothing rather then equal enemys, oh boy!
The Caliphate faced the two superpowers of its time, the Byzantines and Sassanids, right from its inception, whereas Rome faced its first worthy foe, Carthage, when it was already a sizable empire. Your uneducated peasant ass has it backwards.

They didn't, though. The Sassanids and Byzantines were devastated from fighting each other when the Caliphate arose. It was easy pickings after that. As for Rome, during their expansion they faced Carthage, Macedonia, Pontus, Seleucids, Parthia, Egypt, not to mention the barbaric regions like Gaul and Spain.

>>72936395
You really need to learn your history, mountain-dwelling rat. You have no idea what you're talking about. So many things wrong with your post, I don't even know where to begin.

But I'll say it again - Russia wasn't an Empire when they proclaimed themselves as Third Rome, not even in the current meaning of the world - they weren't a multiethnic state comprising of multiple cultures and people.

actually the only really conquering wars were Carthage and Gaul. the rest were diplomatic/vassals that resulted in provinces from civil wars.

not really. They were wars, but didn't result in long term land and influence. just more war.

Ugh, what? The Pyrrhic war in particular removed the Greek colonies from the Italian peninsula, as well as Spain and those provinces were vital grain ones at that. Furthermore Epirus was a major power then and their defeat pushed Rome into prominence.

They were. The Pyrrhic war gave them the Italian peninsula, the Macedonian wars gave them the region of modern day Greece, the Mithriadatic wars gave them control of Anatolia, the Seleucid wars gave them full control of the Mediterranean and opened the way to Egypt. You have another definition of conquering?

>>72938818
you made me doubt myself so I went to wikipedia:)

>The Macedonian Wars were a series of conflicts fought by the Roman Republic and its Greek allies in the eastern Mediterranean against several different major Greek kingdoms

>Historians[7] see the growing Roman influence over the east, as with the west, not as a matter of intentional empire-building, but constant crisis management narrowly focused on accomplishing short-term goals within a highly unstable, unpredictable, and inter-dependent network of alliances and dependencies.[8] With some major exceptions of outright military rule (such as parts of mainland Greece), the eastern Mediterranean world remained an alliance of independent city-states and kingdoms (with varying degrees of independence, both de jure and de facto) until it transitioned into the Roman Empire.[9]

>The First Mithridatic War (89–85 BC) was a war challenging Rome's expanding Empire and rule over the Greek world. In this conflict, the Kingdom of Pontus and many Greek cities rebelling against Rome were led by Mithridates VI of Pontus against the Roman Republic and the Kingdom of Bithynia. The war lasted five years and ended in a Roman victory which forced Mithridates to abandon all his conquests and return to Pontus.

>The Roman–Seleucid War (192–188 BC), was the consequence of a "cold war" between both powers, which had started in 196 BC. In this period Romans and Seleucids had tried to settle spheres of influence by making alliances with the Greek minor powers.

you can destroy Carthage with a plank
>>
>>72939198
You've cut the second and third Mithriadatic war in which Rome basically annexes Pontus (modern day Anatolia).

The Seleucid war results in Rome annexing parts of Anatolia and present day Syria.

The Macedonian wars were started by Rome as to halt the Macedonian territory expansion but they did end in conquest of Macedonia and the Greek city states. While the purpose of the wars at the beginning was just to stop them from attacking their allies, the end result was the same.

Conquering and annexing a nation are entirely different things. Rome didn't even went in which the idea of conquering Carthage even after Hannibal defeated them, it was only after Carthage became prosperous again did Rome decide that no more risks should be taken.
>>
>>72939537
>Conquering and annexing are entirely different things

correct, that's exactly what I was saying.

>It was only after Carthage became prosperous again did Rome decide that no more risks should be taken.

again, correct. But when Carthage was destroyed, the Romans conquered the whole Mediterranean. It was their greatest accomplishment and that's what made become a great empire.

No, they became the dominant power of the Mediterranean, but they did not conquer it. That came later.
