Colour is light because dark colours collect more heat. It's never white though because it'd look dirty af real quick with the seasonal dust.

Most people live in barely functioning commie blocks or tiny little houses that look like trailers. Israel has one of the most expensive housing markets in the world, very few people here actually live in those kind of houses with a big yard. I don't, none of my friends do either. People from the 3rd world hardly even had sustainable architecture in the start of the 20th century, most architects that designed the modern buildings and housing projects had their formation in the west while using local materials and imports from China/Russia, trying to replicate traditions to some extent, but mostly responding to a high demand of european style houses.

It might be a little different for Israel, just pointing out what's the trend outside of the west.
