Notice how the little "mixed" area went from being about the same size to quickly becoming small after Obama.

Non-White President created the divide.
>>
>>72684493
so the internet became a thing, where people could shout what they think is true without having to prove it
>>
Obama
>>
>>72684699
online communities used to be smaller and more diverse. these days 4chan, reddit, and facebook are all huge and people selectively go where they only see things that reaffirm their current beliefs. On facebook its all your friends who likely share a lot of your opinions, redditors go to the subreddit that agrees with them, and 4chan has /pol/.

So everyone's having a circlejerk agreeing with one another without ever having to deal with real opposition, instead directing their arguments at strawmen like the feminazi SJWs or the fedora wearing alt-right neckbeard.
>>
>>72684822

that was that way in the past because the communities were about hobby or fandom x (something that attracts many different kinds of people) and stuff like politics was only discussed in the off topic forum

>MGS2 predicted this 15 years ago
Why didn't we listen

>>72684427
Looks like the divide started during GW's last two years and worsened under Obama, so it's safe to say it was the politics under those two.
>>
>>72684493
Unfortunately this. How do we fix it? I doubt people can be convinced to actually live in the real world rather than online, or to talk with people that don't share their beliefs. I've known a lot of people that have unfriended people that post wrong-echochamber things on their facebook, or purposely wall their brain off from wrong-thoughts.

I think this is cultural more than economic. the 2008 recession is over, and unemployment is very low, cant go lower statistically, so the FED was/is considering hiking the interest rates to avoid inflation due to the economy overheating.
The USA may have people who had factory jobs and dont like their new service sector/retail jobs, or people who became English Majors and got jobs for which they feel overqualified, but they dont have unemployment.
I think Trump won mainly due to racial issues, reducing the number of hispanics and brown people, and slowing down the growth of that minority.

>>72684953
It will fix itself naturally after pre-internet age groups die off. It is just a matter of surviving until then.
>>
>>72684427
Republicans really hate being ruled by a black guy so they chimped out.

>How do we fix it?
The quick fix would be media stop having biases and removing social media (as we know it).

When people only hear what they want and only mingle with people who have the same opinion, they become more 'intolerant' towards opinions which do not reflect their own (>muh echochambers).
Because most major media sources share the same opinion, you never get to consume the opinion of the other side.

It'll probably fix itself in the long run, as many things in socities do, but it's obviously going to take a lot of time.

>The quick fix would be media stop having biases
This has never EVER been true in all of human history. Every organization has perceptual biases that leak through despite its best efforts.
A better solution is to read every kind of publication and to read everything critically, knowing full well that the author is trying peddling an agenda.

That's the situation as /pol/ would like to imagine it, but the racial stuff is more of a symptom than a cause. The entire election was essentially decided by Midwestern rural white voters, a group that had traditionally voted Democrat thanks to the party's support for unions but they've been left behind by both parties recently as the Dems realigned during the Clinton years.

And despite the economy bouncing back overall, recovery has been overwhelmingly in favor of major cities to the cost of rural decay. Any hints of racial frustrations are generally caused by economic concerns as the disenfranchised look for something or someone to blame. And unemployment is a poor statistic to really measure this by for a number of reasons, the most significant issue is that wealth inequality hasn't been higher in most Americans' lifetimes.

Race doesn't really have much to do with it. Trump won because poor white people were angry about both parties fucking them over and people in Washington not giving a shit about them.

No rural white guy cares which bathroom a trans person uses or if someone is committing a microaggression. They care about putting food on their table and getting their kids a good future. Neither party was really focusing on that (well, Bernie was, but he got fucked over by his own party).

Trump promised to bring jobs back. To make an America-first foreign policy. To rebuild the economy. This is what poor white people care about.

If the Democrats want to steal Congress back, they'll need to appeal to workers and farmers. And if the Republicans want to keep Congress they'll need to adopt a citizen-first policy.

There are already sects within the Democrats trying to bring down the neocons who stole their party (Clinton and her friends). The biggest one calls itself the Justice Democrats.

I'm an independent, and I wholeheartedly support their efforts. I think purging corruption is good no matter who's doing it and who it's being done to. If these idealistic kids can pull it off, then good on them. And if they can't, then it just showcases how truly broken the system is.

Most people basically want the same thing and we can all get what we want when we just leave each other alone. Unless you convince someone you'll only get what you want by telling someone else what to do.

To do that you need an enemy so they antagonize each other.

Basically what the progressives and neo-cons have done for awhile
