Note: this statue is of an outlaw. Men who up to the late 19th century lived in the highlands to avoid the government
if sheep were lost in the highlands it would be blamed on outlaws. One example of an outlaw was
Loftur Sigurðsson(dead 1681) who was captured by vigilantes with 120 sheep and 5-6 horses, all stolen. He was taken to the sheriff and beheaded. He lived in the wilderness with his wife, mistress and 4 children.
I've seen some shelters made by outlaws, stacked rocks that probably used to have a turf roof.

People would not travel unless they were in large groups due to fear of outlaws. Mostly just stories though, not nearly as common as people thought
