Basically the brazilian version of the FBI discovered a major corruption scandal between the beef industry biggest players and Ministry of Agriculture. While the good meet was being exported to china, europe, japan, korea and so on, the meat sold to regional brazilian markets was being refurbished after it rottened out. They were using ascorbic acid to disguise the smell and injecting water to make it weitgh more. This was also happening with chicken and pork. Allegedly cardboard was one of the ingredients used to in poultry and everything that was not supposed to be used such as pigs heads, non-ediable animal tissues etc. went to sausage production. These big companies were using coolers full of prime meat to bribe the ministry of agriculture officials that were responsible to supervise the industry. The good news is: at least someone in this country recycles
