Hey /int/, I feel like having a nice thread with these requirements:

1. Your country
2. A piece of traditional/folk music from your country/culture.

I'll start us off with some classic stuff:

1. USA

I understand your feeling completely.

This one makes me laugh considering it's to the same tune as 'God Save the Queen' and was essentially a giant middle finger to Britain.

Oй тoжe, ты знaeшь ничeгo хopoшиe пecни c бaлaлaйкoй?
>>72581510
That sounds really cool actually, what an odd combination.
>>72581612
Is there an instrumental version of this, or perhaps one without the man singing? I quite enjoy the musical part and the background singers, but I'm not really enjoying his singing.
>>72581623
Blues music is great, not a huge jazz fan but I definitely respect it for it's contribution to music in the USA.
>>72581770
;_;7
>>72581821
Your language sounds so odd to me, good music though!
>>72582024
Wow. The vocals on that gave me goosebumps man, thanks for sharing that. Is there a historical background for this?
>>
>>72582480
I absolutely love this type of medieval music, wish I knew where to find more of this type of stuff.
>>72582682
The fusion of the Native and Spanish(I think) sounds very fascinating, the video however would be much better without the odd sound effects lol.

>>72583312
>I absolutely love this type of medieval music
Well, this is the unofficial anthem of the Netherlands and Germany.

What shall we drink, Seven days long, What shall we drink, what a thirst
What shall we drink, Seven days long, What shall we drink, what a thirst

there is enough for everyone, so we drink together, open the barrel already, yes we drink together, not alone
there is enough for everyone, so we drink together, open the barrel already, yes we drink together, not alone

then we will work, seven days long, then we will work, for each other
then we will work, seven days long, yes we will work, for each other

then there is work for everyone, so we work together, seven days long, yes we will work together, not alone
then there is work for everyone, so we work together, seven days long, yes we work together, not alone

first we have to fight, no one knows how long, first we have to fight, for our cause
first we have to fight, no one knows how long, first we need to fight, for our cause

for the prosperity of everyone, so we fight together, together we are strong, yes we fight together, not alone
for the prosperity of everyone, so we fight together, together we are strong, yes we fight together, not alone

>Is there a historical background for this?
It's a traditional ballad from the medieval period. Various versions have existed since the early 1500s.
The song itself is about the tragic love between Bendik and the king's daughter, Årolilja(a poetic name meaning something like "the Lily of the Plains"). The king discovers that Bendik has been visiting his daughter, and sentences him to death. Årolilja begs for his life, but Bendik ends up decapitated and Årolilja dies of grief. They're buried on either side of the church, kept apart even in death, but out of their graves grow two lily vines that twine together above the church's steeple to show the purity of their love.

That's really cool actually, thanks for sharing.

This song is also a couple centuries old. The lyrics and tune. Although you have a lot of modern variations. Because I guess you have to play it on an accordion.

Everyone who wants to sail the capes have to be men with beards.
[three names] they have beards, they have beards. [three names] they have beards so they sail along.
Everyone who wants to overcome the seas have to be men with beards.
Everyone who isn't afraid to die have to be men with beards.
Everyone who isn't afraid of the devil have to be men with beads.

But you have many more lines that aren't in this version. Like "all who can smother pipes" "all who can eat those disgusting biscuits" "all who can kill whales.." etc
