Actually I'm not kidding. This Finn is a notorious leftist/Russia shill whose grandparents were communists that wanted Finland to be annexed as a Soviet republic.

You have a fairly elaborated fantasy. Every time a Finn posts something along the line "hey, lets not go FULL /pol/", you see an autistic burger posting something luke this.

>>72577573
Thank you, huebro. The moon landings were a technical feat well beyond Soviet capabilities.

Yes, you are right. My true name is Vladimir Itvinchi and my job is to influence the new generation to love Russia and Putin (blessed be his name) but now I have to silence you. You capitalistic pig!

I was 14 when the Columbia thing happened. I woke up, my dad said aiyyo the space shuttle crashed or something, I turn on the TV and was like "Damn."
>>
>>72578120
And the Mars landings? And the Voyager probes?

Space race isn't over yet. First one to find the mass relays wins.

That troll graph is as old as the hills. Even the Russians don't pretend they won the race to the Moon.

We do, well, commies do.
First soft landing on another celestial body is Soviet
>>
>>72578801
Luna 9? But wow, they lost dozens of probes before succeeding. The Soviet space program on the whole didn't mature until the 70s after major structural and managerial changes had been implemented.

Also Sergei Korolev is very overrated; he did a lot of dumb things that caused those failures such as not adequately testing probes before committing them to flight.
>>
>>72578964
And today it's just a parcel carrier to the ISS.
>>
>>72577922
Problem was that the Kremlin and the Soviet military didn't have any interest in scientific exploration, they cared only about the all-important national defense programs.
>>
>>72578964

fuck off

>>
>>72580518
That leftist Finn is a de-facto tripfag. You must be new as fuck if you haven't seen him before.
>>
>>72580627
Honestly, two failures in 135 Shuttle missions isn't bad statistically when you consider that the average rate of space launches since the 1970s is one failure in every 16 missions.
>>
>>72580979
it's that many?
>>
>>72580737
hol the fuck up
I have never tripfagged in my entire life and I hate the left
>>
>>72577922
Alright, 17 failures, out of how many launches in total?

>>72580979
question is why would you want a manned ship to refit stuff when automated ones are objectively better
>>
>>72582225
>Alright, 17 failures, out of how many launches in total?
All of them. That's every Russian Mars mission. :^)

impressive, I thought they had like 1 lander and one orbiter that succeeded
>>
>>72582455
The landers all failed, one or two orbiters got back some pics but the US program already got Mars pics back years earlier.

Russian Mars efforts were one gigantic clusterfuck of fail from the beginning--trying missions that were too ambitious for their technological capabilities, rushing hardware and not testing it adequately to beat the US, lack of support from the Kremlin, etc.

Say what you will about america but their space programs are top tier
>>

You are more mentally ill than us though. Your nation is nothing but depressives and suicide is the national pasttime.
>>
>>72582763
The US space program was always ahead of Soviet capabilities except in terms of lift capacity, which they had more of until the mid-1960s. Like noted above, the Soviet program didn't really mature until the 70s.
>>
Don't joke, Our first military sattelite will be launched tomorow.

>m-muh LE EBIL USA >:((((((
Kek every time.
>>
>>72583042
The different design bureaus were run by guys who'd ratted each other out during the Stalin-era purges, so there was a lot of bad blood and hurt feelings going around. They also kept trying to use the same design processes you'd use for military hardware like a tank or an aircraft. This of course doesn't work the more complicated the project is. You might get a little radio transmitter like Sputnik up that way, missions of Apollo scale? Impossible.

Soviet manufacturing, materials processes, and quality control were inferior to American standards. Any space mission also required the support of the Soviet military, who had no interest in anything that did not directly benefit national defense. The Brezhnev leadership were also indifferent to space exploration except insofar as they could gain propaganda points over the US.

Also while NASA had always had plans to land on the Moon since their inception in 1958, the Soviets had no plans really for anything after Vostok, it was just to gain propaganda points. When Kennedy set the goal of landing on the Moon by the end of the 60s, at first Khrushchev believed he was bluffing and also recoiled at the expense of attempting a Soviet program to rival Apollo. The Kremlin didn't even approve a manned lunar program until August 1964.
>>
>>72583754

WE PORTAL NAO
>>
>>72577922
Trying a Mars mission in 1960 was nothing short of mild insanity at a time when getting to the Moon was difficult. When Ranger 7 successfully impacted the Moon in July 1964, it was only the second successful US lunar probe in over a dozen attempts going back to 1958. The Luna 9 landing in February 1966 was only the third successful Soviet lunar probe in over a dozen shots since 1958.

Ironically, NASA succeeded with a Venus probe before managing any Moon success.

>>72578964
>Also Sergei Korolev is very overrated; he did a lot of dumb things that caused those failures such as not adequately testing probes before committing them to flight.
wow
>>
>>72583754
The CIA has likely been testing that for a couple decades in some subterranean black site
>>
>>72584407
Yeah. He didn't believe in ground testing anything except manned spacecraft. In early 1965, the Kremlin took the planetary probe program away from the Korolev Bureau due to their apparent inability to have any success with it and gave it to the Babakin Bureau, who then tested the Venera landers in a centrifuge and found that they would have disintegrated at half the G-forces they were expected to withstand.
