>In spain the mothers surname is always lost
>In portugal the fathers surname is always lost
Why does portugal put the mother''s surname first? most normal countries put the father's surname first, or just the fathers name
>>
>>72562593
Father's name plus a suffix indicating belonging, so it kinda resembles some western "name+son" surnames. At least that's how it works here.
Example: Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. The Vladimirovich part means his fatner's name was also Vladimir.
>>
In everyday life we use the "given name + family name" though.

>>72562593
The given name of your father

>>72563554
Okay but what about the next generation, if you have NameA and NameB marry, and the children get NameA NameB. Would the grandchildren get NameA NameB NameC NameD?

Sit down lads.

The father's surname is your last name and like the family name. You just have the mother's surname as a middle name.

Most of the times you are still known as 'GivenName FatherSurname'

Which sucks for me because my mother's last name is absolutely patrician here and father's name is pleb tier
>>
>>72564046
I am a a Greek you filthy latino.
>>
>>72561779
Why Hungarians always have to be special?
>>
>>72564077
you can choose though, I use just my mom's surname in general, and full name in legal documents.
I'm gonna give my kid my mom's surname because like in your case, it's patrician as fuck.
>>
>>72561779
>>72562593
When did Swedes switch from patronymic to surnames? You weren't even allowed to have surnames in the past.
>>
>>72563967
No, they will have

Given name composed of one or two names

Mother's surname surname (your maternal grandfather's surname also)

Father's surname (also your paternal grandfather's name)

>Example
Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo

The mother an father name modules can have more of the progenitor's surnames if they choose, instead of just the last name of the grandfather
>>
>>72564118
we all switched from patronymics to surnames because we realized it was plebeian as fuck.
nowadays some of our surnames are the old patronymics, but work as surnames.

my last name is Fernández, wich means "son of Fernando", one of the most common spanish last names in the world.
every spanish surname that ends in "ez" is a patronymic.

he was asking if the names get stacked, you big doofus.

>>72563967
names don't stack, you and your wife only pass down one surname each (usually the paternal one)
>>
>>72564219
All Russian surnames are actually patronymics. thanks Peter I, the retardrd germanboo.
>>
>>72564252
no it isn't, the mother takes her husbands surname in their culture so it's the family name because all of them have the same surname, even if it was originally the father's.

they're fucking idiots.
>>
>>72562593
>Before Sweden's family name regulation act (släktnamnsförordningen) of 1901, the patronymic was the most widely used instead of a surname.
Are you American?
>>
>>72564312
Why stupid you latino subhuman?
The father is the head of the family.
>>
>>72561779
Pic is a lie or i am just stupid, we also have patronomic name
>>
>>72564118
I happened gradually nobles have had them for a long time. However for common people it started in the military in the modern era, were there was a need for the administration to tell people apart so people took surnames. However it wasn't removed entirely until as late as 1966, at which time anybody still using a patronymic name got it as their surname.
>>
>>72564353
you are stupid
>>
>>72564342
why would you give your wife your last name?
you made your children, so it makes sense, your wife was made by somebody else, why should she bear your name and claim the credit for the name that you built yourself?

that is one cuck of a naming convention if you ask me.
>>
>>72564375
To show that she is my wife.
>>
>>72564284
Inb4 reading comprehension

Thanks

They don't. But here is comon to have them mixed.

Like I said it's always 'mother part' 'father part'

you can have all your grandparent's last names in your own name.

It's not common though
>>
>>72564398
do you seriously label everything with your name like a retarded 5 years old?

I mean, you are a turkroach so it does make sense.
>>
>>72564447

>>
>>72564426

I'm just slow today

If ABC female married DEF male

>>
>>72564505

you'd have to be as retarded as Picasso's parents.

dark green is more common than light blue these days in Greece

the Iberian system is so unique (and a bit of a joke when making fun of telenovelas here), wonder how it came about
