Where I live it was omnipresent before cigarettes arrived, only reserved for males. There are still some living rooms in old farms where the ceiling has a patina because of all the smoking inside.

Everytime I pull out my hand carved dwarf birch pipe the police come talk to me.
I wonder why.

I've seen only 3 people doing it. Two of them were men on their 40s/50s. Both with a beard, manly looking, one of them riding a classic bike and somehow smoking at the same time, the other walking his german shepherd.
The 3rd is one of my close friends since I was 9, and he smokes the pipe in a kind of ironic, not quite hipster way.

Even smoking is considered extremely low class here. Just quit 3 weeks ago, after being pack a day for 8 years. Cant even believe I did it.
