After playing CK2 for the past week and getting fed up with bullshit DLC/expansions I have a big craving to play EU4 for a while again. Thinking about some calm nation to just colonize new world comfy and don't meddle in Europoe too much. Probably one of Scandinavian countries, depends which will be the best choice to colonize Vinland as early as possible. I miss those days when I still didn't know shit about the game and was just exploring and finding out new things what I can do, colonizing as different nations who historically didn't. Most fun part of the gaming experience.

Cockblocking Russia via Perm is really fun

Also after watching Mummy I kinda felt the vibe to play some Nubian or Egyptian character in CK2 just too bad that by that timeline Egyptian paganism is already gone, or just conquer it as Sicily or something like that. I started as Solomonid guy in Ethiopia (Abyssinia) and got immediately warred by every second country bordering me after first few months. Just did alt-f4 and never thought of it again.

Well it depends on nation for me and the mood, yeah the colonizing is the most boring part but I think it's mostly comfy for me. I do what you say when I play France, I always try to dismantle the HRE and it really does feel like an accomplishment, because it's such a fucking pain in the ass to get into war with all electors and the emperor at the same time. Literally have to plan whose allies I am going to attack so that I can drag the rest of them into the war, who to guarantee etc.

I used to try to blob a lot more but after a while it became quite boring and I just started playing smaller nations and keep myself within reasonable borders while trying to do something. Of course, it would always end up into a blob, kek.

With vanilla, England is the most comfy nation to play imo. You got your own secluded playground where you are the hegemon to not be bored in early game and you can just ignore whatever European politics and blob out in the New World after you unite the island.

But if you wanna go for Norweigian colonial power, i recommend getting Expanded Timeline mod and starting in around 1300/1400. Scandi nations get an option to get an early colonist there, so you can get a headstart and not get blocked off by England/France.
And for even more fun, start in 700/800 when whole Scandinavia and Russia is balkanized into one province minors, and make an early Norse empire stretching from Scotland to Russia (Vestfold starts with lands in both of those regions)

Generally, if you are getting bored with EUIV, get the Expended Timeline mod and just fuck around, it gives you shitload of new options as to what to play.

Yup, I think that England was my first nation in EU4, or at least one of the first.

I wanted to get Extended Timeline for a while now, I just couldn't get over the fact how limited EU4 mechanics are. Like, for that early time period CK2 works the best except that you can't colonize and for later period it's already too complex politics. But for map painting fun sure it's okay I suppose, I will try it.

I always wanted to make a continuous game from CK2 to EU4 but my biggest mistake was allowing that shitty Aztec invasion expansion and even Monks & Mystics. I have tried it for a while now, joining the Hermetic Society (sciene/thinking folks) and it's literally just same events over and over again.

I was thinking about downgrading CK2 and playing Historical Immersion Project mod or just without expansions and later exporting to EU4. Maybe I should just do normal Scandi in CK2 and then convert. But I also heard that you need to adjust a lot of stuff manually for good conversion.

The mod is so complex and there are so many options, it even has its own wiki to describe it all.

Theoretically, there are lot of events and options, stimulating certain events (fall of Rome, rise of Muslims or Mongols, forming of nation-states etc.)

But it works kind of awkwardly. For example, every nation has an option to form modern-day nations, no matter what is the time, so in one of my games i had an 8th century Belgium, or the big empires don't really fall apart like they should.
