My neighbor lives on a slightly larger plot of land than me (with a larger lake, too, damn him) and he sure loves to fire his guns at literally anybody he doesn't know coming up his driveway.

China has done a very good job of walling itself off from the USA, much like Russia. Different internet hubs (Sina Weibo, Wechat, Alibaba, VK, Yandex, etc.), different programs (QQ, WeChat, etc.), different everything, really. They followed the model of "copy and substitute" whereas Europeans, South Americans, and non-Chinese Asians decided that it was simply easier or better to "join."

Joining has its good and bad, of course. You're more cosmopolitan but you're exposed to American and British garbage. The most damaging part, IMO, is American politics. If you look at British politics the past 20 or so years, and look at how much cultural transmission in the English language the USA and UK have had since both countries gained widespread internet access, it's very depressing.

I mean, the left-right dichotomy is technically French, sure, but Brits talk more and more about that despite having much more party diversity than us. Even their use of the word "liberal" has become a clusterfuck due to influence from us, and I truly believe that influence is primarily on the internet.

China and Russia don't have to worry about that.
