There won't be enough of them. They are outnumbered even now by soft unionists and nationalists. They soft unionists just continue to vote for unionist parties because reunification isn't economically or socially attractive to them. A deep recession in the North combined with continued growth in the Irish economy could encourage them to change sides. A hard border could also encourage them to switch given how much trade is conducted across it each day at the moment.

This is true. Money will form the most crucial arguments on both sides of the Irish border when it comes to reunification. But I believe there is still enough nationalist sentiment in Ireland to overcome this, but Unionism isn't as persuasive for soft unionists in the North (not least because the DUP seems intent on alienating young moderate Unionists).

I blame Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan for tying down the look and a good amount of the feeling of HBO-style series and the modern "historical epic" (even if they don't call it that anymore).
Everyone knows what went wrong with Braveheart, and the old-style Ben Hur-esque epics, but the brownish-grey desaturation of Saving Private Ryan and the Spielbergian stock-characters-that-aren't-stock-characters of that film and Band of Brothers are now in almost every historical/pseudo-historical drama I see. There's a very telling image comparison that's one of the first results in images if you google something like "band of brothers resaturation".

I also get the impression that people are attatched to the look common to 1970s/1980s/lower budget or less flashy movies, when cameras were made with grainy film and none of this blue and orange contrast stuff with emphasis on picture clarity. They aren't anywhere near serious historical dramas, but I think the "look" in films like Monty Python and (to a much lesser extent) Highlander is an ancestor of the modern "historic" aesthetic.

As much as I post about how groups of people deserve to be BTFO by being killed, the reality of killing and death is a much sadder thing than positive spin masks and trite cliches fail to convey. "The first casualty of war is truth", and that's true in the sense that truth is rejected and lies plastered over gaps in the narratives that lead factions to war, and that's all before the winning side writes the history (a process which begins before the violent hostilities have even begun).
Irish nationalist effort is better spent not on riling up pre-existing tensions (which power sharing and economic improvements have removed), but in creating new ones and restoring knowledge of why those old resentments that had legitimacy existed in the first place and have not been properly resolved or avenged. In other words, if Irish people north and south had a better understanding, a shared understanding, of who we are and who our forebears were , Irish nationalism would be an unstoppable force. By contrast, the sense I get from a lot of people (the r/ireland types) is that it's all a "spook" and no more significant than Crips vs Bloods, a red team vs a blue team. They have no sense of the weight of history behind them or the complexity of the chain of relations that make up the world people actually live in.
