northern viets are basically hill people from Southern China who when south to escape Chinese authorian rule. southern viets are dark-skinned and have lots of native SE asian features (flat noses, short, etc)

We're apparently a mix of native and some southern Chinese, but no indic (like other indochina countries or pacific islanders) or mongol influence (they failed invade us).
Geographically we're obviously in southeast asia.
Culturally China empires had strong influence on us, but we have separate writing system.
At the moment, most viets don't even want to be on the same continent as China.
