I'd try and do it within the first day if they're online and you have an active conversation going. I have some advice you might be interested in.

I've tried this on 4 girls, and I'm still talking with all 4 girls-

1. When you're talking with them, and having a really fun conversation where you both are enjoying it. IF she says anything like "you're really fun to talk to" or something a long those lines, a compliment. Say "you know, I wish we lived closer, I wish I could ask you out on a date". It's not pushy, but it does show that interested in a very light way that won't put pressure on her to say yes or shut you down. So she'll likely give you a positive reply. Everytime I've done that I've gotten replies like "oh wow really? :)" and "that would be nice! I'd like that". If she gives a positive response, you could open a discussion about it and see how you both feel.

2. Flat out ask. "What do you think about long distance relationships?" And have a discussion about it. I'm going to have this discussion with my Polish QT soon. As I said in my first suggestion, I mentioned the date thing when we first started messaging (the 2nd message to her actually) and I got a positive result. We've throw the date joke back and forth. So in a week or so after we watch a movie I'm gonna ask her "what do you think of LDR? Is it something you could see yourself doing?" and I'll start a conversation with her about it and see what happens. I'm going to keep it very light, so if she says no that she doesn't think she could a LDR, then I'll just brush it off and keep our friendship and act like nothing changed.
