Panama City seems really nice

As an Amerifat if I only really speak English will people understand me there?

Are there areas where I could be abducted and/or shot if I'm alone?

I like them but I know very little about how most people there live and what average neighborhoods look. Hopefully street view is added soon.

Some people speak english, but I would not recommend to expect most people to understand you if you do not know any spanish.
Panamá is a pretty safe country for Latin America. Most turistic areas are very safe but some areas can be dangerous specially late at night. For example: El Chorrillo, Curundú, San Miguelito.

Just stay out of the streets at night in some areas and you'll be fine?
I'm actually contemplating visiting Panama now.

Yeah, stay away from El Chorrillo, Curundú, San Miguelito, specially if it is to late at night. If you visit turistic/historic areas like Panamá Viejo, Casco Antiguo, The Miraflores Locks, etc. you will have a near 100% chance not suffering any violence related inconvinience.
