What's the word for "coast" in Japanese? Every dictionary I've checked is giving me multiple alternatives. I'm looking for a word referring to "the country's coast", like how we say "west/east coast" in English.

I've never seen such a combination, 毎 and 人. I may guess its meaning and understand it like either 毎秒, 毎分, 毎時 (per second, minute, hour) or 毎回, 毎晩, 毎朝(each time, every night, every morning). but I would ignore it and forget it soon because that's an insignificant thing.

Theoretically yes, since it takes the concept of the "forgetting curve" and implements reviews in the most efficient way.

However, not everyone has the patience / focus to go through with all of their reviews each day, as is required. Keeping a schedule can be tough for some, which makes language learning tough regardless of using an SRS system or not. There's also the problem of decks becoming super large after a few years and needing to trim them down some.

These are very small prices to pay for efficient study though, it should work unless you have literal brain problems? Not sure how a learning curve of a mentally retarded person would look, might be exactly the same.

I memorize what a character is by using mnemonic devices. So for example the n character looks like a man sticking his penis inside of a woman in the doggy style position. I imagine the sound he makes as he does this is nnnn.

alright lads, I'm about my 4th or 5th day in anki vocab, and right now I know what some kanji are by looking at them, but I don't remember how to say them

I know you're probably joking (At least a little) but that's actually how I achieved almost perfect fluency in english. Hey DJT thinking about going to Japan this fall for around 21 days.
I'm learning Japanese for around 1 year now, I want to see how far I get when I actually try to talk to Japanese people.

It's not my first time in Japan, I spent 2 weeks in Tokyo 2 years ago.
Now there is still stuff left to do in Tokyo that I couldn't do the first time around, but I don't want to stay the whole 21 days there.
I'm considering staying 10 days in Tokyo and 10 days in Osaka or Kyoto.

There are argentinian lots of anime weebs(I mean, I've seen lots in conventions and stuff like the Anime Friends).

With these larger online digital stores they aren't really the ones responsible for the scan quality. It usually depends on the publisher and who they have used for the digitalisation. The more expensive volumes tend to have their scans handled by bookwalker, for instance, and the manner in which they do their ebooks is the same across stores. After a while you can tell if the scan is going to be of a decent quality by the folders present when their ebook is stripped and converted to a standard archived folder.
The cheaper ones tend to use the older Open eBook Publication Structure ebook structure while the more expensive ones tend to use a newer standard for Bookwalker, by Kadakawa publishers.
It's one of the reasons why cheaper manga volumes on websites tend to be, well, cheaper and why they are often lower in quality: due to using an outdated license free ebook publication format compared to the more expensive volumes which involve the newer but also proprietary system by Kadakawa. It's a bit shit that once again draconian Japanese corporate policies are hurting the consumer unnecessarily.
Most of that was off on a tangent, just one of those things a lot of people probably don't realise. Ebook publication is a complete mess thanks largely due a few corporations holding it back.

Manga and light novels I either need to ocr, search the radicals, or rely on furigana. Manga has the additional problem of providing a lower density of new words which is problematic when you want to add 40/day.
Anime is worse in density of new words and many series don't have jap subs on kitsunekko, and I'm still at the below beginner stage.

The only thing I can think of is online newspaper, but do I really want to learn the word 米司法省? The lexicon of newspapers is immense too, it would probably take years before I started to make sense of anything without yomichan, and the grammar is probably pretty different from any other kind of source that I might want to consume in the future (manga, anime, LN).

Mining efficiently is also important. To answer your question: no, but you want to learn the word司法, which can be used with the prefix 米 and the suffix 省.

Sure, that's fine. I'm always reading this thread, so that should work out just fine. I also use minagokkoアットgmailドットcom for 4chan stuff, so there's that.

Interesting info about the digital stores there, but in this case, I imagine the store is also partially at fault. Like multiple others as well, they process the images as part of the DRM. Instead of applying some sort encryption, they scramble the images themselves and then save them as JPEG. This creates a lot of edges around the images where you normally wouldn't have them, so when you unscramble them, you get a lot of artifacts you normally wouldn't get. It's not really noticeable for B&W pages, but for manga covers and colored pages, it can get pretty bad.

Fair enough, I put an American bias on it. I'm aware of the difference in American dates compared to the rest of the world I just didn't think about it and said what sounded the most natural to me.

I've spent about half my life in England and half in Australia and I'd say "March (the) 15th" and "the 15th of March" sound equally natural to me. I'd mostly expect to hear the former in the context of figuring out a calendar date eg "Alright, for our next meeting... I can't do March 15th" "Why, what's happening March 15th?" The second sentence especially.

Question: did anyone else find directly studying the radicals a waste of time after a certain point? I did a week or so of running a radical deck before easing into kanji and while I think it helped a little, after a while it felt like I was just getting overwhelmed by enormous abstract shapes with no meaning and 2-3 alternative forms, some of which are totally unused and many of which are rare/obscure (and no way to quickly know which). I'm several hundred kanji into a modified Heisig deck now and it introduces every new radical with an explanation anyway, so you learn as you go with the added bonus of context for each one (often very sensible, like the gold/metal radical being used for the kanji conveying gold, copper, bowl etc).

Only thing I'm disliking is how heisig puts his own meanings to some radicals/radical compounds without necessarily making it obvious it's his own creation, at least in my Anki deck. With "computer" for Ri it was obvious but I worry stuff like "flower/sun/large" becoming graveyard might fuck me up later

RTK took me around 4 months, Tae Kim also took me 4 months, but I studied at a much slower pace, so I'd say it should take 1.5/2 months.

"I'm sleepy." is a little bit childish/cutesy (only a bit, though). "I'm tired." is more neutral, "I'm exhausted." is also common if you're tired because of being very active (either exercise or work/activities)

So are kanji phoenetic, since names are written in kanji? Or are Japanese names nouns or something read literally?

See how you've linked the A, B, and C routes together, immediately I thought of how it could be made into some kind of interactive mind map.
Person taking route A, for example, will have the mind map/system laid out in front of them as you have it and on the screen, whatever, they click their first box and within that box opens up a list of related resources with links and descriptions, as well as a sub section for each major resource, similar to what is in the Guide. It's the sort of thing a beginner could easy follow with the flowchart arrangement.

The deck I use (nihongoshark) has a ton of fields on every kanji's note, including heisig's mnemonic, any important notes from heisig (shit like water abbreviating to small or dog changing shape on the left hand side), and the top two mnemonics from koohii. You should be okay with the top two, but occasionally people use an alternate form for a radical that just "clicks" better for whatever reason. Think like if you want to change the "person" thought of in the 人 radical if you have no idea who Mr. T is etc. Maybe give it a look if you're really struggling?

As for radicals having multiple names / forms, after a while it becomes a non-issue via repetition. When you learn actual words using the kanji, the "radicals" become pretty irrelevant anyways regardless if they were formal or made up by heisig, since you can just look them up via vocab anyways. Just think about it like kanji training wheels, they become superfluous eventually.

As for difficulty, I'm doing OK with ~95% correct consistently and 30 new cards per day for the past 10 days, the issue I was having was with the radical deck itself - since they're mostly all their own shapes, you have to just remember them all rote, and doing that even for just 15 new cards a day is tricky if it's 15 instances of huge stuff like the radicals for 'writing implement' or 'old bird'. The kanji deck only adds in 2-3 new radicals per day (if that) even at 30 cards per day, which is an easy rate, and the kanji themselves are easy too because "wash = water+before (before=cow+human legs)" is heaps easier than 10+ random lines, and that's even before you start adding stories

It's a shame my recall of actual vocab is going to be so slow in comparison
