What's more important right now is ridding us of outside liguistic influence. Southern English has recieved ZERO protection by any state government or authority, there has been absolutely no effort to preserve it. There needs to be sweeping changes to various things, for instance, when all the local radio or television anchors speak in put-on shitwestern accents of course it will put the notion in people's heads that their accent is some mutation of proper English and not the proper, normal way to speak where they live. I don't agree with going back to the old dialect because it'd be unnatural but I do agree that something needs to be done to remove the societal pressures that cause people to neutralize their accents. Hell it's even happened to me, I used to only speak with a southern accent to family because I grew up in the middle of no where and was embarrassed about it because I was a stupid teenager.
