Russian here. Blue whale is bullshit. The guy who made it, Philip Lis, just got the name and original concept from other guy, Sinii Kit (Blue Whale), and held some conferences about netstalking, ARG and for suicidal teenagers.
There he was talking to them for not going dying, but sometimes he fucking felt like its useless, then trolling and sarcastically telling them to die in a stupidest way possible or making retarded and overdetailed guides for becoming hero.
After some time he wanted A LOT of hype, and began promoting his public page, named Blue Whale. Promoting was done by making a lot of gossip about some strange game which kills you. But it wasnt doing that, he was fishing for suicidal retards this way.
After 1-1.5 years shit broke loose, when some guys decided to get on long dead hype train by reviving it and making gossips about new Blue Whale game, and to enter you was obliged to post a messge with certain poem under some message to gain attention of curator - guy who will give tasks and last task will be suicide or curator will help you. And, well, it was very chaotic. Some guys was trying to fish for suicidal tards to make them live, some was getting lulz and rarely even CP like our anons, and in very, very occasions there was actual suicides. I heard about only two or three, and hashtag was FLOODED with posts about shit. Also, Philip Lis almost got in jail.
