What is proper one btw Finnic or Finnish?
>>71991221

This
But before slavic culture and language arrived to Northern- Russia, didn't many Russians speak Finnic?
And many of your lake names about 60% have Finno-Ugric origins?
>>71991634
When these territory was colonized by slavs there were no russians or ukrainians, they were just countless tribes with different names like drevlyane, krivichi etc. And lands of modern central and north-western Russia indeed were populated by finnic tribes but they were outnumbered and assimilated by slavs. So we do have some finnic addmixture but saying "russians spoke finnish" is incorrect. Russians are descendants of slavic-finnic mixture but slavs were dominant majority. The finnic legacy is toponims tho, that's right. Actual name of Moscow-Moskva is named for a river called Moskva which is a finnic name and means "wet/humid/swampy".
