Since this thread is dead, allow me to take you on a very slow, probably incomplete journey through America's metros.

The first one is the Staten Island Railway. Despite being in New York City, it gets very little ridership since Staten Island is mostly suburban, and it doesn't actually go into Manhattan, it just stops at the ferry terminal, so most people take the various commuter buses, since they're faster, go directly into Manhattan, and are more frequent (with some routes having a bus a minute). It's not included as part of New York City's subway because operationally, they're two different things, with the SIR having its own set of staff and employees. It's also considered a subway and not a commuter route as it costs the same as the subway (although because ridership is so low, there are only fare gates at the first two stops) and the service is much more frequent (15 minutes throughout the day, and 30 minutes overnight).

The picture is of New York City's newest station, which just opened last month. It replaced two, dilapidated, old, two-car stations that were within a few blocks of each other. The video is a ride on the entire line since it was the only video I could find that gives a good perspective on the line.
