Which one is more popular in your country?
>>71949086
Arch user here
Linux user since kernel 2.0
>>71949106
I use Arch too
Is gentoo worth trying?
>>71949171
Sure, I used to run it a while back. It is good if you have no experience doing builds, compiling etc. If you have no interests in such things, just stick with Arch
>>71949213
Oh ok
I like Arch, I use xfce. It works well
>>71949086
>flag
hard to tell because both are dwarved by Debian distros
arch is of course the patrician's choice
>>71949086
I was ricing arch on a separate hard drive until I realized I was never going to actually use it and was wasting my time.
>>71949086
>I use a server OS for my laptop because it makes me feel smart
>>71949086
Nobody really use gentoo outside /g/ desu senpai.
>>71949523
But there's nothing that makes it a "server" os.
And a server distro would be more like Debian or CentOS
I don't know, but neither sees much use.
Debian is the Linux colossus here in enterprise. Desktop Linux is essentially non-existent, but what little there is, is also Debian-based (Ubuntu + offshoots).
>>71949086
Literally what?
Who /Gentoo+OpenBSD/ here?
>>71949680
Gentoo desktop and OpenBSD Chinkpad
>>71949680
i use arch on both chinkpad and desktop
XP Master Race!!!
>>71949785
Please tell me that's a VM.
>not using Fedora
>>71949086
Neither, we use Fedora
>>71949828
>Yeah. VirtualBox icon in the bar
I have no idea, only freaks use anything other than Ubuntu as their desktop OS anyway
>>71950894
>>71949828
>winXP is now virtual machine tier instead of 98
time flies
>>71951100
It does indeed
Both are memes

>>71951921
>first one try debian, because don't want to be seen as normie tier in /g/
>then go to ubuntu because curiosity
>next into fedora, not so comfy
>next kali because start into inner autism
>then arch and gentoo, can't into it
>want to try hackintosh, not so comfy
>think chromium os is good, it's a mistake
>then again back into debian
the cycle of freetard
>>71952002
Stopped reading at Kali
It's a pentesting distro you fucking queer.
Also what the fuck do you mean "can't into it"?
There's virtually no difference between distros besides package manager and a few other shit. It's literally minor shit
>>71952036
>muh kernel
>muh systemd
>muh update
>muh compilling
yep i can't into it
>>71952061
Try using windows then, might be more to your liking.
>>71949086
>Which one is more popular in your country?
>Be autistic enough to use Linux
>Be in the 95th percentile of autists that use those two distros
kys nerds
>>71952147
nope i ma fine with debian now (been using a year), and it's good for my battery
>>71952261
Enjoying your outdated packages and shitty apt? Lol
It's my spring break and as such I am going to install gentoo for the first time
what am I in for
I've used arch for a while
>>71952287
>dependent package
lol, retard
arch >>>>>>>>>> memetoo
>>71952330
I use Arch because it's the True hard right Distro.
Everything else is for degenerates
Arch is ok, while you are in school. Serious persons use gentoo. I am using ubuntu with own kernel and with a lot of changes: I removed zeitgeist, amazon's stuff and so on, I use ufw, dnscrypt-proxy, clamav and other.
Am I ok?
ubuntu
>>71952546
>Am I ok?
No
>>71952566
Why?
>>71949086
this is now a screenfetch thread
>>71949086
None.
At schools they use Ubuntu or Fedora. At work they either use Debian, Ubuntu or Red Hat.
>>71949680
My nigga openbsd is this shit
>>71949086
CentOS or Redhat or whatever proper server distro is used.
Might even the most used OSes in this country, with the amount of server we have running here.
>>71954043
Stop hosting child porn, malware and other abuse
Fuck you
>>71953707
that's clearly neofetch
>>71952546
>ufw
>clamav
>>71954075
:^)
>>71954073
We're trying, we don't like it either.
We prefer having regular porn and personal data on our servers
>>71949086
Debian in college, Linux mint when I was in high school.
>>71949086
Most people here are normies and have actual sex.
>>71949086
Gentoo is minimal for the sake of performance.
Arch is minimal for the sake of devs' laziness.
If they were really interested in delivering a system that was simple by design, it wouldn't be built on top of systemAIDS.
I don't like either, or any Linux. I use Open BSD because it understands the true meaning of simplicity.
>>71954270
That's why I can buy the prettiest for a small amount?
>>71952316
Gentoo is like if all your packages came through the Arch Build System rather than as binaries.
You will spend some time editing a configuration file, but with any luck it will be smooth sailing from there.
Don't bother compiling a custom kernel when given the option though.
>>71954308
>flag
>no broken english

I bet 100€ that you're a neckbearded weeb behind a proxy...
>>71954473
Yes, most people on 4chan under the Japanese flag are not in fact Japanese. Congratulations on realizing that only a few years later than everybody else.
Choosing Linux as the desktop OS is the same as being a loser.
>>71954769
Sounds perfect for you then.
>>71949106
>>71949171
>arch
have fun with your infested AUR
>>71954844
I barely use AUR. What are you mean by infested?
>>71954880
do you ever read the code you are compiling?
>>71954888
From AUR? Yeah I read the PKGbuilds.
If you mean do I read EVERYTHING then no I can't say Ive read every line or every program on my computer.
Can't say I've read every line of everything. - I don't write my own libraries, frameworks, APIs, etc desu
Just use Ubuntu or Debian you autists.
I've used Arch for about six years now.
>>71954844

$ pacman -Qme | wc -l
46
>>71954977
Pacman better package manager and arch isn't bloated
>>71954924
At least gpg-check the source tarball, do not trust the checksum on aur
>>71955094
Okay senpai I will now
>TFW probably part of multiple botnets now
I am using ubuntu, but it is literally windows of linuxes
>>71955037
>muh bloat
what does this even mean? The installers for Ubuntu and Debian both let you choose what packages you want, plus you can "apt-get remove" anything you don't want. Not to mention the size of the OS is pretty small compared to modern hard drives.
>>71955094
>>71954844
what did he mean by this
>>71949086
I'm pretty sure Arch is more popular in every cunt.
I have been using Arch for years, maybe I'll try Void the next time
do linux and autism go hand in hand? Nobody except legitimate autismal geeks uses it here.
I use Elementary OS as my primary OS. I know some guys who use Ubuntu and openSUSE. I've never seen Arch or Gentoo though,
>>71960149
That's why Bulgaria is still a third world country
debian
/Desktop Thread/ ?
>>71960829
What browser is that?
to all the people saying debian itt
which version? testing?
>>71960919
firefox + vimperator
qutebrowser looks similar though
>>71960577
Nah, we have far more legitimate reasons for that.
>>71960957
I used to use dwb but it was abandoned, so I'm using Firefox with VimFx today. Vimperator was too heavy and invasive for me
>>71954270
Is that a new type of linux?
>>71949086
