The sad thing is that they only get jobs like waiters because of our own economic situation. But most of them don't stay that way and immediately start searching for a good job or going to the university.

the issue is this
socialists governments want people to depend from the state, so that they become clients, and therefore always support the state, because the state is the person who gives you money, who pays your wage.

In Venezuela doing that was extremely easy because the main source of income is oil, and oil belongs to the state.
Chavez destroyed the rest of the economy, nationalizing steel factories, expropiating things and giving them to political supporters, and expanded welfare, all paid by oil exports.
He could do that because of the very high oil prices of the 2000s after the American wars in the middle east (and due to chinese and indian growth). But it all fell apart when oil prices fell a few years ago.

The Kirchners would have liked to do that in Argentina, but it couldnt be done because our main source of income is agricultural exports, not oil, and we have hundreds of thousands of producers in the private sector, you cant nationalize cows or soybean.

Unlike Saudi Arabia or United Arab Emirates, Venezuela isnt a desert. They could easily have a very developed agriculture and tourism sector, but Chavismo made them 100% oil dependent, which is 100% state dependent.
