Inspired by a thread I saw in /lit/, I decided to pose this question here.
In my experience, I'm generally better acquanited with world literature (mostly European though) than most other countries.

Most people just downloaded summaries from the internet, and thanks to incompetent teachers, the analysis of most of these books was never sufficient for most of the students to develop a sense of critical thinking. That's why we're such a retarded country.

They had a programme to try to encourage more reading in school but it didn't work out that well, read some teen books that I don't remember the names of except for an Alpha Force book and some Horrible Histories
