Der Kurfürst
>>71706761
I believe that we will keep them until 2025, when we will replace them with F-35B. They are good planes but, unfortunately, they are getting old.
>>71706857
We will be F-35b brothers.
kek
>>71707005
a cute
>>71706963
yeah, in the next decade the UK, Italy and Spain will have a very similar airforce (at least regarding fighters) consisting of F-35 and Typhoons.
The replacement of our F-18s (that we will also need to replace around 2025) isn't decided yet but, it would be surprising to have any other plane that the F-35 considering that we will also need to replace our Harriers and there isn't any other STOVL plane out there.

Both are BEA
Odd that these threads never turn into autistic bickering about f-35 or f-11 like on /k/
Makes me ponder
>>71707394
tbqh the UK is the only level 1 partner for the F35b, with 15% of the jet being built in the UK and contributing £1billion to the economy every year (supporting British jobs too).

The idea was that our best shot against the Russians was to prevent invasions through air superiority, so a buckload of cash was invested in it. To the point where during the 50s we had the forth largest air force in the world.

UK has been a serious co-partner with the F-35 program. Much what was learnt with our own steath fighter program was rolled into the F-35 program.

The UK did a lot of work on the JSF. Most Euro operators contributed a small amount at least. I work in the industry and know there are dev teams outside of Rome working on avionics.
