I think whites don't let it get under their skin so it eventually goes away. as the old saying goes 'there is no such thing as bad publicity' so if you start complaining about it, it sticks because it gives other races an edge over you. if you can make someone extremely angry just by calling them a name then it can be used against them for myriad reasons.
