>Harper was better and got shit done.

Harper was just as out of touch with Canadians as Trudeau is.

Mr. "There's no recession, trust me!" Harper
Mr. "Don't worry, we are an energy superpower!" Harper
Mr. "If you don't want us to spy on you, then you are with the pedophiles!" Harper
Mr. "Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah even though Hanukkah ended weeks ago!" Harper
Mr. "Canada will defend Israel no matter the cost!" Harper
Mr. "Let's save ~$35 million dollars by cutting public funding to political parties while we spend even more on government advertisements!" Harper
Mr. "Accountability in 2006, and opaque governments for the next ten years!" Harper

Harper ran a tremendously poor campaign as well. He hired a piece of shit campaign strategist who helped conservatives win in the UK and Australia. Harper shamefully tried to stoke anti-immigration sentiment with his bullshit niqab red herring, at the same time posting bullshit ads like the pic, pandering to socially conservative immigrant voters. He focused on constantly attacking Trudeau personally (and people still spout the bullshit substitute drama teacher talking points) instead of policy. And when he did attack policy, it sometimes backfired; Trudeau saying the "budget will balance itself" is equivalent to Harper's excuse for continuing to cut corporate taxes while deficit spending in the wake of the 2008 recession. Harper literally made the same argument.

Overall, they're both intolerable pieces of shit, but let's not believe the /pol/ memes that Harper was somehow a god (or even a decent PM) and that Trudeau is the destroyer of Canada.

I voted Conservative in 2006 and had little problem with Harper's gov't until he had a majority. I'm very sorry for this post, but seeing /pol/ shitposts leak here pisses me off. We need more janitors on /int/.

Flaherty's policies were responsible for significantly lessening the effects of the recession on thw economy.

Harper filled his cabinet with members based on their merits and skills. Turdshit fills it based on muh diversity.

Harper was a way better PM than Turdfuck ever will be. Him and his cancerous father who introduced the shitty Multicult policy to Canada are both one of the worst PMs the country has ever had.

>His legacy can be measured in numbers: under his tutelage, Canada’s economy outperformed the average of the G7 major industrialized countries in all but one year; he controlled spending, slashed the corporate tax rate to 15% from 22%; lowered the goods and services tax from 7% to 5%; and created the wildly popular Tax Free Savings Account. More controversially, he broke with his own principles and pumped $40-billion worth of stimulus into the ailing economy amid intense pressure from opposition parties; bailed out the auto sector; pressured the major banks not to lower five-year mortgage rates; introduced the universally loathed taxing of income trusts and more recently, carried the spear for Canadian consumers over price gouging.

This is why the Canadian economy fared much better during the great recession. Not policies under libshits before him.
>>
>>71671985

Harper wasn't responsible for all of that. Our economy fared better in part because of the safeguards put into the economy before Harper took office, which was admitted by Harper himself. And if you think the PM has direct control over the price of our currency, you have no basic understanding of economics.

At the end of Harper's tenure, our full-time employment rate never recovered to pre-recession levels and was even on another downturn.

Our currency dropped during Harper's last term because of a global commodities slump and low oil prices (we were in another recession at this point, which Harper denied), which Trudeau inherited. Our economy and our currency have slightly recovered since Trudeau took office, by the way, but it has little to do with Trudeau's policies.

Harper ran bigger deficits than Trudeau and never truly balanced the budget (we only had a surplus in his last year because he sold off our GM shares). Again, he did it because we were in a recession, and then when Trudeau took office, we were already in another recession.

>>
>>71673926
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_81JYoC-BN0

PM Harper explains at ~5:00 when prompted about how Canada required no bank bailouts that it was because of regulations (which were in place before he took office).

He continues at ~6:24, saying that Canada has a good balance of regulations and not too much government intervention, and that countries with much less regulation of the financial sector ended up requiring massive government interventions to save those banks. He admits that Canada received criticism from having too much regulation, but that Canada in fact ended up stronger after the recession than other countries because of it, retaining a more free-market system than the countries with fewer regulations.

Is Harper wrong in saying this?
