I think it's a pretty unique and an exception in modernist achitecture.
It looks futuristic since white + strange shaped buildings + water is a good match and I live near it

Kazan is a tatar islamic city conquored by russians. The czar was brutal with muslims and cucked them hard, which is why Russia still stands despite having such a large "muslim" population

Well, first the governor of Mari El decided it was a good idea to put a cheap replica of one of the Moscow Kremlin towers and a pseudo-Russian style church in the center of the town, amid commieblocks, then he decided it wasn't beautiful enough and ordered to build some Italy-inspired buildings nearby, and then, with his fantasy already working full speed, ordered to add a Brugge-like quay to that wonderfully harmonic architectural ensemble because why not build a Belgian quay in front of a Russian church and a bunch of pseudo-Italian buildings in a provincial god-forsaken town in the middle of Volga forests.
And there's also a lot of statues, including one of Rembrandt, one of Lorenzo the Magnificent and some other historical figures totally related to the history of Mari El. And bear in mind that the commieblocks didn't go anywhere, they're still around, forming a perfect frame to that ensemble.

I miss going there, I used to go there a lot as a kid, thankfully I'm going over there this June.

Is there a black African building that can compare to any of these? I mean full black btw, before whitey came and gave them civilisation.

>>71513123
Yes, that's amazing, and insane. Close up it looks like it was built by polish cowboys. I think Gaudi has a lot to answer for.
If I had an incredible amount of money, I might have my own house built - I'd probably commission brick specials and fancy stonework. I wouldn't try building it myself, as my legacy would be a jerry-built hovel. Though it would probably last longer than most new builds in my country.
>>71513220
Pity, cos architecture definitely has a political dimension. Next architecture thread will have to be at least nominally fashy buildings.
