Ok, I just finished learning hiragana and katakana, and want to start learning vocab and kanji. How should I go about doing this? Should I just start grinding away anki with no other resources, or should I learn vocab and kanji first then start using anki for memorization?If I should learn the kanji/vocab ouside of anki, what sites /resources should I use ?

No reason to only use Anki, unless you were really hurting for time. Have you not studied grammar yet? Grammar studying for Japanese is very important since it is very different from English. Tae Kim + Anki Deck (core 6k) would be good. I also wrote a bunch early on, which drilled in stroke order, but frankly that may have been a waste of time so I don't know if it is recommended. Also eventually you want to get the Rikaichan plugin and start actually trying to read whatever you can. Also listening to news, podcasts, whatever. Best not to waft too long in the "learning" materials, which are fine but need to eventually become supplementary to actually consuming content.

I use Wanikani, it costs money and is less flexible than Anki but it's more structured and has mnemonics for each kanji/vocab. If you're good at doing everything yourself Anki might be better but I appreciate WK cause it sort of turns it into a game almost, and it being more structured helps me stick with doing my studying consistently.

Also don't forget to study grammar too.

No, not one after another because you're not going to retain all of the grammar instructions in one long binge without actually engaging in content as well. And personally it sounds boring as sin, but I'm sure some turbo autists might like it. Ideally get a good anki deck like core 6k, do a good little chunk of cards a day, and then set some time aside for grammar studying. Then, you want to eventually start introducing actual things to read, which is going to actually reinforce the vocab you are learning and probably more importantly it's probably going to make you actually give a shit about studying grammar, as you are going to see formations that will puzzle you and you are going to want to decipher its meaning.
