Why are Americans such slaves
Don't know about others but when we, northern Europeans go to work, we actually work. We don't fool around like Greeks or south Americans.

This.
We work less but are way more efficent. Look at Japan for instance; they have insanely long work days but absolutely atrocious white collar work efficency. If you work 8 hours with a nice 30 minute break for lunch in the middle, you end up with 2 4 hour shifts and your ability to stay focused on your job will be much improved.
Quite a few vacation days means we can take time off when we start to feel a bit burned out, saving us the massive decrease in work efficency a proper burnt out worker would face.

I highly doubt that. School starts at 8am, to 12pm for dinner, and then from 1pm to 5pm, that's 8 hours a day, I don't think you could make kids start earlier or finish school later.

if I had to go to school for 8 hours as a kid I would've killed myself
Up until 8th grade we went home usually around noon or 1PM.
In highschool we left around 1-2pm. Sometimes 3PM but usually I then just walked the fuck away.
Curiously I now have a college degree, so who knows, maybe it doesn't matter how much time kids spend in school, but rather, what kind of education they get there.
Personally I believe 3,5 days of work per week should be enough.

I noticed quite a lot of graduates are searching for 30 hour per week jobs nowadays. They actually don't want to earn more than the average person, they just want to have more free time.
