It's a 99% catholic country forged by expelling Muslims that eats tons of pork and produces tons of alcohol.

While not aggressive towards foreigners, we're also pretty intransigent. Our house - our rules. We may not mind foreigners, but we won't detour our ways just to accommodate, so it's mostly on them to make any sacrifices if they want to live here.

This might seem a bit weird and backwards, but it means that the few ones that do stay are the ones who can integrate and end up not being hated or resented.

I know of a dude from Aleppo studying in my University who got on pretty well - he doesn't eat pork or drink beer but it's up to him to bring food or pay extra when the cantina is serving pork. Outsiders have to adapt to the host, not the other way around.
