In America, becoming a cop is unironically only a matter of knowing how to handle a firearm. The whole law stuff is optional.

This is one of those things that differ even at a local level.
Some places like my town require all police to have completed a 2 year criminal studies program, while some places only require a high school diploma and a shitty training course.

Our police requires some training of a couple months and no studies at all. Usually is filled with good-for-nothing assholes.
