Why do Indians eat their food on a leaf?

So they can wipe afterwards.
Because Canadians make the best food.

This.
we feel close to this tasteful tadition.
Fuck paying for plates, and you don't need to do any washing up
>>71351290
Can't afford plates.

This is more in the south, specifically tamil nadu and kerala. Its used more when youre having a traditional meal but some places use it as a normal daily thing.
Its not really that appealing to look at but it does have its upsides. Its natural & bio degradable, you can feed it to farm animals if you wish at the end which is what kinda happens with all those cows roaming around.

Something about it. Having eaten a nice hot dosa on a leaf in the south and I can say I can die in peace. It's satisfying.

Can you ask for silverware or is it considered rude?

This. My Indian mate got married last December and all the food was on banana leaves. It's actually really sturdy and once your done eating they collect all the leaf plates and feed it to cows and other farm animals.
And food man! I never thought I'd fall in love with vegan/vegetarian food but these guys know how to cook

You can and no its not considered rude but generally they clean the clean the leaves thoroughly before serving you food on it. Well atleast in my experience
>>71354739
Yeah I was asking because you are supposed to eat with your hands (might be mistaken tho)
>>71354813
*bare hands that is
>>71354813
That too, you can ask for a spoon and a fork. They don't have knives tho but you should try eating with your hands, it's quite fun

If they are using Canadians instead of plates I doubt that they can afford silver cutlery.
