Aye. Of course a good wage is nice but imho that shouldn't be the reason for enlisting. Nonetheless, it's a great chance to better yourself, find where your limits and boundaries are and even exceed them. You can take the man out of the military but you can't take the military out of the man.

This film was made in the late 90s. I served there last year.
Well it is russian army so expirience is shit of course. You are not treated as a human being but rather like some kind of dog which must be trained.
Foe every mistakes you pay, like the whole company should make push ups, do squats or something similar.
It is often that you don't sleep at all. The whole year they are trying to get as much from your resorces as they can get. You always work, no time to rest. Speaking is forbidden, if it's only not commander or sergeant speaks to you.
You shouldn't have a lot of personal things. Everything is stolen. You should look carefully for you clothes and other shit. If it's get stolen then it is your own fault. They came up with a bulshit term that stolen thing is not stolen but it iis you who fucked it up. Rather you have it or don't you should find yourselve a new one. Nobody cares where and how. If you go to the formation without some your clothes accessory the whole company would get punished.
You can't go to the bathroom when you want. Only during 1 hour after dinner and during the night.
When you get up you have 3 minutes to either brush your teeth or take a piss. Nobody cares if you don't manage it in time.
>>
>>71265750
wtf

I'm slowly starting to realize why people don't like Russia very much over the last few months
>>
>>71265750
You also should pay attention to your weapoon and is ammunition. People like to steal amo from the bags you are keeping it in. If they would manage to do that you must pay to them either in food or money. To lose your ammo is a crime in russian army so you can get send to the disciplinary battalion for that which is another level of Hell.
>>
>>71265845
wtf i DON'T like russia anymore

what a fucking shithole. I can understand why you people are always so aggressive and angry.
>>
>>71265903
I am surprised that you are surprised.
WerenĀ“t you aware of these things?

I fact I was expecting worse.
>>
>>71265750
>>71265845

Where does this kind of behavior stem from? Surely it has drastic negative effects on morale and quality of outcome.
>>
>>71265944
>I am surprised that you are surprised.
>WerenĀ“t you aware of these things?
I'm a russian who was born here
>>
>>71265903
Well, russian army actually train you very well not in terms of warfare but actual communication with people around you. You can't filter assholes out of your circle as you could while free. So you come up with ways to speak with them. It can be hard and it was hard for me since I am really shut in guy, but being shut in isn't an option in the army so I was forced to change some of my behaviour.
You learn to stand for yourself, to not be afraid of such thing as a fight, be able to say your word when you think it's neccessary, so there is a plus.
But I would lie if I also won't mention that sometimes everyone over there had a thought about killing some asshole officer.
>>
>>71265965
>Surely it has drastic negative effects on morale and quality of outcome.
when you're born and raised in shit, and then live in slightly worse shit, it won't do much to you

I imagine most recruits into the army are from buttckfuck-nowhere-livinghellistan rather than moscow or st. pete's, so their choices is either being a poor alcoholic, a poor drug addict, or a slightly less poor soldier
>>
>>71266053
Seems really messed up considering you also have mandatory conscription... So basically pretty much every Russian male has gone through this?

>>71266109
>I imagine most recruits into the army are from buttckfuck-nowhere-livinghellistan rather than moscow or st. pete's, so their choices is either being a poor alcoholic, a poor drug addict, or a slightly less poor soldier

I suppose this also makes sense, then.
>>
>>71265965
As I see it when you get in the army there is at least conscripts that were conscripted earlier. They were treated like shit their first half year so now it is their turn to make you, new conscripts feel the same they felt.
Officers are always assholes. Everyone only thinks about himself so that creates conflict situations.
>>
>>71266127
Russian society is very strange.

i was watching some videos about Russian prisons and they're even more strange.
>>
>>71266127

Yeah I was thinking something along those lines. We also had some bullshit unofficial traditions passed down from previous conscripts such as having to salute properly and waiting for a permission to enter a smoking booth if there was a higher ranking conscript in there.
But other than that, no hazing whatsoever.
>>
>>71266116
Some just buy the papers and don't serve. Some have some sort of disability that prevents them from service. Others try to stay low from the goverment until they hit 27 years when they can't be conscripted anymore. But most of the young guys serve nowdays.
>>71266109
Not true.
The only thing I coud say about guys from Moscow is that they are sissies mostly. They cry to much. Other guys are more norma, excet those from Caucasus region.
I also noticed that all thieve guys were from Omsk. They are trash in general.
>>
>>71266259
>excet those from Caucasus region.
these are?
>>
>>71266232
I serve with a guy who also served in Ukr army before getting russian citizenship.
Over there he told me they have a fucked up tradition where conscript who goes home must go from headquarters to the gates and when he goes out of headquartes all young conscripts start chase him trying to catch him and beat him down. There were often cases of broken limbs and broken teeth as I was told.

Since I am Medic they transfer me to medical platoon later where I worked with surgeons and only met those guys during appointments.
Treated the wounds and all that.
I haven't seen the worse if I wouldn't count medical encounters. Only heard about some shit that happens. Like some kid who attempted suicide or some guy who jumped out of the window from 4th floor because he was told to.

>>
>>71266749
Sure but I'd always prefer my current situation. Feels good man.

It's just crazy to think about, sometimes when I don't feel like going to the gym for example I think about kids in Cambodia missing their arms or something and then I go to the gym because I realize I'm healthy in a first world country with above average wealth while people starve.

Idk man, just the contrast between me *considering* joining the Canadian Forces to get paid good money to have fun while some kid is getting beaten in the Russian army is interesting to think about. Maybe it's just me though.

As a hilariously delayed response since I was busy, they're comparatively good. More technological and specialist than most other western countries since they're a small one and can fill in with the Americans. It's still kind of shitty though, like a lot of equipment and gear is outdated and had to be drawn out of retirement for Afghanistan, for example. Trudeau hasn't indicated it will get any better (although Harper was equally awful). It's not a terrible career path though, it's not like in the US where you serve four years of your prime and then are tossed out. It's more a genuine lifetime career in CAF.
>>
>>71270326
True. I did hear that actual - that equipment wasn't really "top notch".

I've heard a lot of people left too because they were displeased. Not sure if I'd make it a long term career but I feel right now that a few years would be a positive experience for me and then I'd see from there.

Apparently some recruiters are worse than others as the one I went to wasn't particularly keen it felt like.

I don't know about enlisted guys, but most commissioned officers are fine with CAF. They all wish it could get more support but recognize the public disdain so just kind of accept it. It also depends on what position you're ok with. If you don't have any education you'll at best be an NCO which kinda would suck as a career end, but up to you.
