What exactly constitutes Western society?

Europe and america

It's in what I would describe as a midlife crisis.
Everybody secretly believed that in an equal fair world the west would stay the best due to some magical western spirit and inherent superiority.
It worked out in the cold war, the west won over communism, yet that was a consequence of more of excessive ideology rather than the ideology being of an inherently bad variety.
So now we see flawed countries, from western perspective, most notably China, doing very well. Everybody is waiting for them to fall over for not being western, but they just refuse.
Meanwhile we've hit a technological limit and growth is slowing down. Employment (as percentage of total work able people) is going down world wide, but the west has the most issues adapting it seams.
The reality is the west isn't in decline, everybody else is catching up and the west is losing it's relevance, slowly, but surely.

The middle east seems doomed once the oil runs out and global warming starts kicking in

look at growth around the world and you will see
the west is at 1-2% growth, the rest is at 3-4% with some at 5-10%
