just look at the map of russia. If we let chechnya go this lets a precedent for all the other republics to break off. What is European or Asian really? Culturally Caucasians are different from Europe but they are different from Asia as well. Geographically we can see that Caucasus is basically the border of Europe and Asia. Theres no real answer to this just because of how unique the circumstances are.
Also Armenia and Azerbaijan need not apply. They are considered West Asian geographically.
