I guess it depends on what you like. I am obviously bias, but personally I find Panamanian history to be quite facinating. Some of our art(Roberto Lewis) and literature(El ahogado from Tristan Solarte, Vida que olvida from Justo Arroyo) is pretty good . But I absolutely love our music.

And yeah, it's kinda messy when we lower our mast. Like some of the electronics (GPS /DGPS, AIS) sometimes fucks up. That is, until we raise it up again when we pass Flamenco Island.

Well at least they extended the panama canal recently with the wider one. Ships are maxing out the capacity and the new designs prove that. (Google neo-panamax). Lowering the mast will be regular now.
