America is in what is known as a state of division. That means there are two parallel mainstream American cultures. You probably don't want to bother with the urban/left-wing culture - for one, you could just go to Sweden. But you also wouldn't be able to get with a girl from rural/right-wing America, because of her inherent distrust for foreigners. So there's no reliable method of you getting an American gf who you wouldn't regret dating later.
That's not to say you can't get an American gf, however. You just need to be a little more enterprising about it. If you're not planning on moving to America get on the internet and start interacting on social sites. If you're a buff Nordic bear you'll get attention just from a pfp, otherwise you'll have to work for it. If you can get a girl into a skype call you win - she'll love your accent. Americans have a thing for foreign accents, to the point that it almost doesn't matter what the accent actually is. If you don't have an accent, play it up just a little bit. Now at this point if you don't have the money to go to America in the near future you might be sunk - she probably won't be interested in a long term relationship (although there are exceptions). So have some disposable income on hand to meet in person and seal the deal.
Obviously if you're coming to the states, or there's a significant American population near you, your method will vary.
