USA doesn't rule the world,
that's why what they're doing now is stupid.
They have a network of allies and relationships that ensures they have sway beyond their already great size and power.
However Trump is trying to leverage their power and position in a way that damages those relationships and alliances.
Should china attempt to do as america, they would also have to make those relationships and alliances the way the americans did.
They would have to give up on teritorial expansions like claiming the SCS and work on convincing nations they are worthy of trust and that they will be good partners in trade, diplomacy and coexistence.
In short they would have to become USA to be what USA is (or was, depending on your pessimism).
China as it is can never lay claim to the same power the americans have as they are now due to a gap in soft power.
