I changed my SD card to a better one and mistakenly corrupted my Anki. I tried to change the folder but it did not work. What do I do now? Is it possible to recover my deck? The backup is also corrupted. I reviewed more than three thousand cards and had a deck created by myself with more than 300 kanji. Should I start new decks now? I have an idea, at least for the pre-made decks:
>Set your initial card curve WAY higher than normal (something like 15 days for Good and 30 for Easy);
>Spend your weekend doing a billion cards, until you reach the point where you stopped previously.
This way you will get a few wrong and have to review them tomorrow as natural, no problem.

This will push the ones you pass even further.

Why exactly are では and じゃ interchangeable in negation? By that, I'm trying to ask, what exactly is its "purpose" when you suffix it with ない?

I'm trying to understand the Imabi beginner tutorial on negation/past tense http://www.imabi.net/negativepast.htm . I'd really prefer to understand why conjugation patterns are the way they are, rather than purely memorize every case through brute force.

my tae kim is still in basic grammar section but i also have the DoJG deck which i have set to 3 new cards per day for now until i'm more comfortable with grammar.

Okay, I think I phrased that poorly. What I'm trying to figure out is is what では "is" as it relates to negation - what exactly the "unit" of grammar here is. That's just plain wrong, unless you're trying to make a tag question. ではない/じゃない is only used to conjugate 名詞 and ナ形容詞 to the negative form.

Actually, you don't. You could simply use でない and the meaning would remain the same.
However, for some reason, it has become common practice to use them together in this case. Maybe because it's easier to slur them into じゃ like this, I don't know.

I'm wracking my brain trying to remember all the onyomi/kunyomi of certain Kanji. There are some that I've come across that seem to list off a number of different pronunciations. How does /djt/ handle hurdles like this?

I've been getting bombarded with a few kanji with lots of different, seemingly irrelevant pronunciations, and while I'm going over my daily limit already today I don't want to back away what I've got in front of me.

I see why using じゃない with a verb is a mistake now - my apologies. As for 走らない, I fucked up because I mistakenly thought it was a ru-verb rather than an u-verb of type る.

So, knowing that it's an u-verb, the correct conjunctive form should be 走って, right? So then, can you negate it by attaching ない as a suffix, like「走ってない」? If so, what's the difference between this and「走らない」? If not, why is this ungrammatical?

Making a connective negative doesn't even make sense. What you're doing is merely attaching a verb in the negative form to another verb in the connective form.

But, yeah, I guess you could use 走ってない (see the grammar behind 〜てある) in a sentence like, for example, 「道が走ってない」 (lit. "Road hasn't been run")

I did it with French (my only study apart from reading) and I'm already able to converse with people in French (although very basically).

I think it has its merits, specially for drilling production and making it feel natural to type certain sequences of words. I wouldn't be doing that kind of study even if I were studying proper grammar, probably.

Don't worry, though, I'm past 60% of the course in less than a month and once it's over it's nothing but a 10 minute review every day. Just getting a feeling for basic sentences before I dive into proper grammar material.

I'm reading 最強伝説黒沢 at the moment. It's a manga, and yes, I would recommend it. Skill level is difficult to gauge, but it isn't too hard I think. The text is pretty sparse, the setting is contemporary so the vocabulary should be familiar, and no one has a dialect worth mentioning, so far anyway. The whole collection is on nyaa if you're interested.

Guys, i've got a question about mining. So i stopped learning new cards from core 6k (3100) and started a mining deck but i just noticed that the detect duplicate feature scans your entire collection so some of the cards i'm trying to add to my mining deck are balls deep in core. I want to continue my core reviews but it's getting in the way of my mining. What do i do?

If you read/here いる being written/spoken as おる with "dialect characters", such as Kansai speakers (関西弁) in that context it will likely be meant as "いる". This is not the same as the humble polite おる・おり.
Here are a couple of quoted examples from natives:
From someone living in 京都:
>父が庭にいる。(normal usage)
>父が庭におる。(kind of hard to use, not entirely normal)
>猿が山にいる。(normal usage)
>猿が山におる。(normal usage)
From someone living in 大阪人:
>普通に「おる」使いますよ(^^) (so they just use おる instead of いる as standard practice).

If the context is someone being really polite or if it's an older person/authority figure in a formal context, or even someone serving a guest in a restaurant, etc. and they use おる・おり then it's going to be humble language.
If the context is somewhere in the Kansai area or they are your token Kansai character and おる is used in "normal" contexts, then it's a dialectic replacement of いる, not humble language.

Yes, memorize both scripts.

Then you can follow either the Red, Blue or Pink route.

Blue is the most academic and surefire way to do it, but it will make you take a good while before you really start learning practical Japanese.

Pink will give you some foundation and ease the learning curve for kanji.

Red will be the harshest, but will allow you to start using what you learn to read/write right away.

Grammar is a must on every route, study it in parallel with whichever route you take.

That isn't entirely correct. It was creative commons at the time it was ripped. The nature of creative commons means that they cannot take it back.
Anything ripped now, after they threw up the pay wall, would be in violation of their copyright however that isn't the content which is floating around.

From my understanding, the company sourced their data from a corpus of 50 or so years worth of newspapers. It isn't merely a collection of words, though, it is their presentation of them with native sentences, translations, native audio, etc. In essence aside from the spaced repetition system, their entire program was ripped.

Yeah, I'd say they are worth it. Provides that relatively easy order or new words Core gives you, where you tend to be introduced to different readings for kanji and the like. If Core6k was working really well then the excess from Core10k should work in a similar fashion.
It's really up to the individual as to whether they want to continue in a systematic spoonfed fashion with vocab or if they want to target specific vocab. Even then, it isn't exactly a dichotomous situation; you can "mine" and "do core" at the same time if you want.

It's your own bubble to do what you want. You determine your environment.

Is there an easier way to learn the numbers in Japanese?

I've been trying to imagine the number looking like this 1,0000 for 一万 in my head but it's still confusing when you're used to the coma being there to mark the thousands.

So, I have a really stupid questions and I'm not really sure where else to ask:

My first name has two common spelling: ブリタニー and ブリトニー. Looking on the Japanese wiki, the first spelling seems to be more common with the "Brittany" spelling. The second one is more common with "Britney". Though I'm not sure if this is just a coincidence or how it works.

So, my question:
How do I pick which one to use for my name? The one that matches the most common spelling, or just whatever one I prefer, or some other reason?

Yeah, to the point that it is a bit of a trope in manga. For some reason I went from ふいんき to ふんいんき. It's a bit of a brainfart, really. ふんいき just doesn't feel right, as you mentioned the more technical physical aspects of the pronounciation.

Someone brought up how the phrase リアス式海岸 hooks into your brain and is a bit of a meme. Now it's stuck in my head. It flows together so well.
