6th of June 1523 - Gustav Vasa is elected king, and the modern Swedish state is made.
26th of February 1658 - Sweden annexes Scania, Blekinge, Halland, Bohuslän (about 1/3 of the Danish core territory), the island of Bornholm, and Trondheim (in Norway) from Denmark after having marched on the Danish capital in a defensive war in which the Danes were the aggressors. It is a humiliating defeat for the Danes, to lose so badly in a war that they started while they thought that Sweden was weak and busy fighting in Poland and having been declared war upon by Russia, that they to this day remain butthurt over.
