There is also a type of housing development in China called "泰晤士小镇", which means Thames Town. It basically means recreations of streets in what the Chinese believe to be an "English" style.

These are not quite "suburbs," but they often include suburban housing nearby.

They have a HUGE housing bubble. Middle/upper middle class Chinese have very limited investment opportunities, but one way they can invest is through housing. In China's case it depends on your location for example the Pudong district of Shanghai houses the new airport and maglev train used by foreigners so the folks there got really nice houses and facilities and even green everywhere to make a nice impression to arriving investors. The rest where investors would not go are legit fucked.
