Does sb knows where on the web can I found some english-speaking chinese people? I'm learning mandarin, and I wish to find some native/fluent mandarin speakers. I'm absolute beginner, and I'm learning characters aside from tongue (sth like Heisig's method), so I can't just enter random chinese forum, 'cause I wouldn't understand many. I was thinking about some language exchange, but it could be hard, 'cause I'm Pole and nobody wants to learn polish, but I'm also fluent in english (B2/C1 I guess), so maybe that's the good way.

TL;DR Can I found some mandarin-english speakers, or some bilingual mandarin-english forums, Usenet groups, etc?

Anons, do you know some great chinese manhua and anime? The only one I found is Duan Nao/Die Now (It's great, except some 3D animation). I heard about Rakhasa Street too, but after 1st episode I realised that's really pointless and boring.

FSA located it in 4th category (from 5) for english speakers, I guess that it was 2200 hours, or sth like that, you have to check it on the web. But this probably includes learning characters, wich isn't the same as learning language. Actually language is pretty simple and really logically made. I say it as a slavisch language native, so I guess that for you it also will be easy. I recommend you to learn characters aside language/speech, and learn how to write Mandarin with pinyin and zhuyin.

Here some proofs that it's REALLY simple:
-has not cases
-has not conjugation nor declamation
-has not noun's gender
-doesn't distinguish singular and plural
-it's SVO
-it's isolating/analytic language


TL;DR It won't take longer than learning some other non-indo-european language, and probably shorter than some european languages

I recommend you learnchineseez site, but with regular pinyin mandarin, "ez pinyin" really sucks a lot. Unfortunately, for now you can't buy full course, because of some technical issues. But I wish that'll get working, cause it stopped working when I deciee to buy it...

To learn characters I recommend you Heisigs books (actually I have "Learn Traditional Hanzi 1" in pdf, and I can send it to you, if you'll get me mail, or some other contact I can send it to you). I don't exactly use Heisig's method, but rather i found from which charcters is builded another one, and the I try to remember it as a sequence of characters, rather than making "plots" for it. Anyway, I fiunded this book really useful.

Other good way to learn chinese is Anki. It's flash card based study aid, especially good for languages. You can make your own decks, but you can also download shared decks, from AnkiWeb website.

Try also to watch chinese anime and movies, and read chinese manhua and books, it's really helpful when you get intermediate.

Many people also recommend ChineseClass101 and ChinesePod lessons, although for me these aren't very useful. But it'll help you pronounce Mandarin, which is somewhat hard, especially due to "tones".

For primo, you should learn language, cause lot of Japanese doesn't get well on English (?english? - dunno, sometimes I see languages written with capital letter, sometimes without).

I recommend you japanesepod101, Anki, and Heisigs "Rmembering Kanji". Fimd more resources on sites like nihonhoshark, and so on.

For secundo, you have to start economize. Live in Japan is expensive and costful, especially in large cities.

For terto, you should find out, if there's need for people doing job that you do (missing word...). If there isn't, you should raise your knowledge and try to find, how you can get job in Japan.

Then, at last you should worry about how to exactly get there - most cheapiest way is probably by plane.

And I don't know if you need visa to live in Japan, but you definitky need valid passport.

Question for mainlanders - are you still learning traditional characters, maybe in high school, or university? Are these characters modern traditional (as in Taiwan/ROC), or maybe you learn some seal script?

traditional (taiwan) is relatively easy to understand even if you've never learned it. ancient chinese would probably be taught in some specialty class in uni. its certainly not a part of the main stream curriculum.
